Patterned or plain? Is fancy stuff worth the money?

Is your bedding patterned or plain?
Why did you choose it?
What do you prefer?
Is spending £££ worth it for fancy stuff or is it no better than middle range stuff?

We are redecorating our room so now is my chance to get decent bedding etc etc so I want to do it right.

Advice please! Grin

It's a mixture of what was available when.
We've got red, yellow and blue fitted sheets in a sort of t.shirt material and white, green and orange flat sheets.
We've got green, blue and orange duvet covers too. A lot came from Ikea, some came from Switzerland and one lot came from Bangkok.
We have two seperate single duvets on our KS bed to avoid argument.
I would go for mid range. It not only looks and washes better, you can replace it more frequently if you get bored.

In the new year sales we got a lot of new bedding. Our bedroom has plain neutral walls, but very dark brown furniture, with a bit of colour added with extras (vase, pictures etc) so we went for mostly plain. Then when I inevitably get bored I can just change the small things, or add cushions. :)

It was very pricey, but it was a fair more than we usually spend on bedding. I would say it was worth it. Much more comfortable, and washes really well.

*wasn't very pricey

I buy plain bedding then snazz it up with throws, cushions etc.. Adds colour and not too expensive to change when you get bored. Smile

I like decorative bedding. I usually get sets from TK Maxx but when we built our bedroom I got a set from Next. My bed has always needed dressing rather than just making but given how much room they take up I think the bed should be the focal point of a bedroom.

I always buy plain bedding in the best quality I can get.

I always buy plain white in the best quality I can get, usually from TK Maxx. I have found that patterned stuff just fades, no matter how expensive it was. Whereas I have white duvet covers and pillow cases that have been washed hundreds of times and are maybe eight or ten years old and they honestly look as good as new. If white goes grey you can just whiten it again with glo white or something like that.

Plain white always for me. Accessorise with colour by using throws, cushions and flowers.

I prefer cotton sateen to percale 600 thread is lovely. I also prefer King of Cotton to The White Company as the sheets wash better and last longer.

Shoutymomma · 28/02/2012 21:01

John Lewis, plain for us.

HettyKett · 28/02/2012 21:08

White. Best quality you can afford.

Rainydayagain · 29/02/2012 20:02

White 600 percale washes lovely.

I have about 3 coloured cotton "sets" from Ikea which I use with 400 thread count cotton flat sheets and pillow cases from TK Maxx.

I then have 2 hand painted cotton sets from India which have washed up faded but still look lovely.

I then have 2 cheapy sets that are our very very last resort spares for camping and when we have lots of people to stay.

Matalan has 400 thread count plain sheets.

I have light grey and dark grey walls so I like a pop of colour on my bed.
