What do your DC keep their swimming bits in?

Am fighting hard to stay organised!! DD1 goes swimming with DH every weekend, and now DD2 is going to start lessons with me too, so, rather than putting everything back in their drawers each week, it makes sense to have their bits ready to go in bags. So far we have mussled through with carriers/rucksacks. Has anyone got a good sized, waterproof, not too expensive solution?

TIA

We just use those drawstring nylon duffle/rucksacs, often given away as promotional things,or available for less than £5. They can't be spoiled by wet stuff, can go in the washing machine as necessary and take up no room in the cupboard

Mine swim once a week, and I find that the type of bag doesn't matter but system (tyranny) does. One has a cheap drawstring bag thing, the other prefers a rucksack, both waterproof found on Ebay. On pain of death they must leave hats goggles, brushes etc in the bag but put cossies and towels by the washing machine and put bags in the hall. I then wash cossies and towels with other towels and hand them back next day to be put in the hall ready for next week. This system put in place after a couple of stinky-week-old-kits discovered-hours before-next-lesson type episodes.(Shudder)

Ah yes clippity. When they come in, it's shoes off, towel and trunks in washing machine, hats on kitchen side for me to talc and put on kitchen radiator, bags with goggles and shower gel inside hung on end of said radiator. Then they can sit down/speak/have a drink....

Don't you find if hats are left wet in the bag they stick together to they can't be opened to put on next week?

FessaEst · 24/02/2012 15:10

Yes, I definitely need a system. DH cannot be trained out of putting damp/wet towels in the basket with other clothes so I always go ferreting!

Forward don't you find those drawstring bags are rubbish with wet stuff after though?

I guess it depends how long you have to carry them for. Trunks are generally wrung out and wrapped inside towels, so it's not like they're dripping. They do get damp though, which is why they are hung belong on the radiator until next week.

DS uses the bag he got his trainers in from JD Sports. They're excellent for swimming stuff. Ok theyve got the shop name on but they're a good size and waterproof.

The DDs have school backpack type bags that are used solely for swimming stuff. The bags have a main compartment for towels and cossies, front pocket which came with 2 small lunchboxes - one used for snack, other for shampoo etc. Small side pockets are used for goggles and swimcard.

Only wet stuff goes in and out of the bag; clean dry towels and cossies straight back in.

Can't link as on phone, but theirs are Slazenger and they were in the sale at one of the sports shops.

Wet cossies are wrung out and wrapped inside towel 1, which is then wrapped in towel 2,so bag stays fairly dry.

Good point Forward, just looked though and hats OK. One was inside out, interesting. The girls do the wring out and roll wet cossies in towels drill which helps. Must go and re-pack bags, DDs wondering what the heck I'm up to...To answer your original question Fessa, rucksack jobs with pockets are the best.

We have nice cotton bag for towels plis a jd sports type ( apple) plastic bag for wet things.
Also find strip and wash same day, dry it then back in bags next day approach works. We keep it in utility room.

DD has a large rucsack with front pocket for hairbrush, clips, hairbands, spare socks, knickers, vest.
Top pocket has her swim pass & £1 x2 for changing locker.
Main bag, she has two swimming costumes, googles x2, towel, toiletry bag with wash stuff/ flannel in & a big plastic bag for wet stuff after swimming. ( as we often go out and about after lesson/another club/party.)
Side pocket has a bottle of water.

Works well for DD as she can see where everything is. Grin

I used to find those plastic/cotton string bags a pain to fit everything in.

When everything is washed and dried i just pack the bag again and hang it on dds hook in the lobby for next week. ( saves me trying to find everything last minute)

I put them through the rinse/spin dewberry and they are all nice for the next session.

Best place I've found is the hand bag and purse stall in our local Market.
She has lots of cheap draw string bags, some of them a bit larger than you often get. Ask, ours keeps all sorts under her counter.
Great for swimming stuff and track suits.
