LPG aga costs

hi, can anyone tell me what a 2 oven LPG aga costs to run? I'd love one but am trying to at least go into it with my eyes open. I'm not on mains gas.
Thanks.

Have you considered getting an electric one instead? Mine is electric and has this thing called AIMS which allows me to run at low, slumber or normal. I have it low over night, sl warmer for lunch and up to full temp for 2 hours a day when I'm cooking tea. Saves quite a bit but we do still have high electricity bills (ours is 4 oven though)

Btw I think there is an aga forum somewhere on the net. Think it's called loveaga or something like that, might get more info on there Smile

I do the same as Thinkingof4. Gas costs have gone down considerably since installing AIMS though elec has gone up a bit. Mine's also 4 oven.

Thanks for your experiences. Still, trying to weight up the options...

I do love my Aga. Feels so warm and friendly. And now I dry all the washing on it overnight (even though it's on 'low') so hoping electric costs will go down now that I'm not tumbledrying.

By the way, you don't have to have an electric Aga for AIMS - mine is gas, you just need a plug socket nearby for the AIMS controller. I see you're not on mains gas, but perhaps oil is also an option?

It's good to hear AIMs can go on gas too. But LPG is SO expensive these days. I've done some rough (and quite possibly incorrect) calculations that would suggest that without AIMs it could cost about £36 a week! So I'm thinking electric might be better. I have my eye on a 2nd hand one but think it could still be converted to electric with AIMs. I grew up till I was 16 in a house with an aga so it's an emotional more than a practical thing for me. But I don't want to live to regret following my dream...

Well, if you have room for a second oven, you can always have the Aga on only in winter? Is that an option. Cuts the cost considerably.

And, btw, your calculation sounds about right for my 4-oven Aga plus gas-fired central heating (on liberally in quite a large-ish house space).

Yes, I could switch it off in the summer. The £36 pw would be largely on top of £150 a month on LPG already for heating and water, though I guess the aga would reduce my central heating bill for the kitchen at least. I wasn't going to have it heating water as I guess my newish boiler will be more efficient? From what I read oil can be an even more expensive option...
Glad to hear you love it, though!

Yes, ours isn't set up to heat water, I think a new boiler probably more efficient too. That's interesting, we pay about £150 a month for gas for Aga (on AIMS), c. heating and water all in.
