washing machine not filling properly - any ideas?

normally it fills a bit, rotates a bit, fills a bit, rotates a bit until there's enough water in there

since yesterday it seems as if some kind of sensor might have failed - it's doing almost constant start-stop-start-stop & at one point had a much higher water level than normal (luckily drain & spin seem to be working ok)

I'll need to get someone in, won't I? Sad

It might be that the pressure sensor, that detects water level with a plastic tube that goes to the bottom of the tub, has the tube blocked, for example with soap sludge.

It is possible to open up the machine, take the tube out, and clear it. But you might not feel comfortable doing it.

If it is soap sludge that's blocking it, an occasional Maintenance wash with HOT HOT HOT water, old cotton towels, and no detergent, will help wash it out of the tub. But it sounds too late now.

It is also possible that the sensor itself, or the wiring, or circuit board, has failed, but that's less common.

Thanks, PJ

Touch wood, it has righted itself now - I played around with it today, with & without washing in. At one point, with a load of very heavy towels in, it wouldn't even spin Shock

but then I tried it empty, & it seemed to be filling correctly again, & spinning, so I ran a 90 degree wash (I hadn't done one for ages) & it went right through the cycle OK, & managed a subsequent 40 degree wash too.

However it also did that last night, before going wrong again this morning; I have booked a service call which won't be until Thu pm, so I haven't cancelled it yet & I can try it again tomorrow morning
