We have got mice...again. Had them before but got a cat and they disappeared. Unfortunately out cat got knocked down and killed a few months ago. We now have a dog and don't really want to get another cat but really want to get rid of the mice! I've got those audible mouse repellent things but will the dog hear it too? I've got no chance of blocking holes to stop them getting in as our house is old and like a sieve at the moment so no chance of that! I think they are only in the kitchen at the moment but the thought of it is making me sick

I have no solutions for you as we are plauged with the damn things too at the moment
Peppermint oil does not work

we are seriously considering getting a cat!

Beware of getting a cat. We have no problem with mice other than the live ones he sneaks in and I find later on Hmm. Depends on the cat me thinks!!

I don't have any other advice than maybe try the council pest control or a company like rentokil, but they will lay poison and or traps. May not be safe with your dog.

AHHHHH we have been through this too, so so many times. I swear we had a whole colony living with us in the last flat and then we moved (away from mice, so I hoped) and had several of them within weeks even though I went to extreme lengths like washing the kitchen floor every single day and putting all food into glass jars and plastic boxes. We have a cat now (Gorebridge Rescue Centre, it was utterly brilliant) and we have been very lucky because she never brings me ANY presents. She will chase any mice that she sees though (we have only had 2 in the 4 years since we got the cat - the mere presence of a cat puts the mice off apparently unless they are really really stupid), so if she isn't running around then I feel safe. But the other great thing you can do is steel wool, it's quite cheap and you get it at B&Q. Buy loads of it and stuff it in the gaps under skirting boards, in the holes between the floorboards.... a painstaking process but one room at a time and you can then seal over the top of it with that clear gel stuff also from B&Q (you can buy their box of 6 and it's much cheaper). A horrible situation, I am still terrified of mice but the cat and the steel wool at least make it a rare situation instead of a daily nightmare. By the way, if you do go for the cat, then apparently your cat will choose you. I thought it was a load of rubbish when the woman at the centre told me that (they have more than 50 cats to choose from) and we picked out 5 or 6 that we thought were nice and then went round them all again - only one was actually interested in coming to sniff our hands and she seemed to like us and she was the one we brought home. I think she is sympathetic to my fears of mice!! Same thing happened to my friend recently - her cat choose them too. I think the rescue centre number is 01875-821025 if any use. GOOD LUCK!!!

Local council may have access to something dogsafe. Have successfully used Nesorex throw-bags (go in places dog/cat can't reach), obtained from farm-supply shop.
Steel wool works, but been told mice can enter through hole the diameter of a pencil - that's lots of filling. Good luck.

I feel your pain - we have them and have done everything - traps, sticky boards, poison but we still have them Angry. We have had professionals around to lay more poison, but they seem immune to it

I agree, notoriously difficult to get rid of mice. I also agree wire wool (and that foam in a tube thing you spray into it - to create a blockage in holes etc) plus traps that have peanut butter or chocolate in them - or tuna, they love it. And I would suggest the old metal wire and wood traps, kills them quickly and you can chuck the whole thing out in one go.

And try not to poison any that may get say behind a skirting board to die as rats will smell this , turn up for dinner and hang around for more kill/capture /dispose
