I have two quite boring and entirely unrelated questions this morning as I go about cleaning my kitchen this morning

  1. Would you rather have floor in your kitchen which:

a - shows all the dirt and food as it appears, so you are prompted to clean it sooner but looks dodgy quite quickly.
b - hides the dirt so it looks passable to the untrained eye most of the time but could be a bit grimy

I have just swept under the highchair and found a squashed soggy blueberry wheat from earlier which, if I wasn't on my own and concentrating, could have melted into the background and stayed there for a day or more. and quite possibly has done

  1. How do you get rid of white glass marks left by dishwashers? I use a variety of tablets/liquid/powder/rinse aid/salt but still the marks are there. I have taken to washing the nicer glassware by hand and I'm bored of it.

I have white tiles on my kitchen floor. I used to hate them, but have now got used to cleaning them more often and rather enjoy the gleaming white reflection!

I think that DWs don't do glass much good.

Thanks Bonsoir. My floor is mid brown wood effect vinyl (nicer than it sounds) so food can hide quite easily. I do sweep and mop regularly but I have to look carefully to make sure I haven't missed a bit.

I was really hoping someone might have a miracle answer for the glassware. I hate washing up.

I have natural slate in jade green which is hiding a multitude of sins which is very low maintenance.

I recommend marble for the floor, it's so grained and pigmented that nothing shows up and I only have to clean it if it feels gritty.

hahahahaha Grin

if you use salt in the d/wr, then it shouldn't be limescale on the glasses (rub with vinegar to check) it is probably etched by the aggressive cleaners and going cloudy.

there isn't anything you can do about it. Some cleaners are supposed to be slightly better than others. Bar glass-washing machines use a different detergent and will not clean plates or pans.

you just have to have some dull, tatty glasses that go in the machine, and the nice wine glasses you wash by hand. Expensive lead crystal and antique glass is soft and marks especially badly.

Oh bugger. Sadly no expensive lead crystal or antique glass here though, phew.
