i am looking at getting this bunk bed www.bedkingdom.co.uk/parisot-tam-tam-bunk-bed-pine.html for my boys. but when i rang up about it the person said that they come up a bit bigger then the standard single so will be 10cm longer in length. he said that some people will get the normal standard single matteress & just have the gap, has anyone done this before? thanx

Ikea mattresses are longer than normal and seem pretty good quality.
Habitat (online) also do continental mattresses. They are expensive but they often have offers.
Personally, I wouldn't have a gap.

We have a bed with a 200cm mattress and I have found getting fitted sheets to be a pain. As 190cm is the standard, few places have 200cm. Ikea does them but there is a fairly narrow colour range and other places all seem to be expensive ie 25 - 30 pounds for a single fitted sheet. If I was buying a mattress again I think I'd go for a 190cm and have the gap but my son is young. If I had a tall 15yr old I think they may notice the extra 10cm.
