Do I just put them all in a bowl of diluted bleach? Some just a bit grimy, some the type with holes in that squirt water, let a yukky slime out. ANy help appreciated.

through the away.
and for the next lot, glue the hole shut so there is no moisture inside that can go mouldy.

DarlesChickens · 14/02/2012 11:07

Dishwasher.

Nuff said.

yellowflowers · 14/02/2012 11:22

Really Darles? Never thought of thaat - will do this afternoon.

Can't bear to throw away mousy - some were being born presents! I'm a sap.

Let us know if it works - I too have sentimental attachment to some toys

FaithHopeAndKevin · 14/02/2012 11:34

Dishwasher.
Squeeze in and out with milton.
Then superglue the fuckers.

MyMamaToldMe · 14/02/2012 11:34

Does the dishwasher really work - even for the squirty toys? I've just thrown away a load and bought a new lot, so would be very interested to know if this really works!

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 14/02/2012 11:37

the dishwasher will not get rid of the mould/black gunk inside the toys.

WaitingForMe · 15/02/2012 11:33

Old toothbrush and a bit of bleach then the dishwasher but there is a limited life and I recently threw away a load of the DSS's bath toys (just before Christmas and Santa brought more before this makes me sound evil).

WowOoo · 15/02/2012 11:41

I've binned a load of squirty ones.
Too much of a faff to keep rinsing them.

I've given my 2 yr old some old medicine squirter srynge things to replace his beloved squirty toys. Need a bit more imagination, but they can at least be cleaned.

TheScottishPlayer · 15/02/2012 11:58

Squirty ones are impossible to keep clean long term ime. I do find a soak in coke (yes, really) helps dislodge any black mouldy gunk followed by a quick wash with a washing up brush works a treat.

BrandyAlexander · 15/02/2012 12:09

Soak in dettol overnight and then usually handwash with fairy liquid. Never thought of the dishwasher!

Yellowflowers · 15/02/2012 13:41

I did it in a bowl of diluted water for an hour long soak then wash with fairy liquid. Seems to have worked on all but two.

if the are grimy inside, you might find the squirter has a nozzle pressed into it that you can winkle out, possible with a corkscrew, leaving just a hole.

A denture tab, mixed with hot water and poured in, will clean the inside if necessary (a bowl with a few denture tabs will clean the outsides as well, if you haven't got a dishwasher)

bessie26 · 15/02/2012 15:34

Chuck em & buy new. If you DC are attached then let the toys play outside of the bath - we have a few squirty monsters who we cleaned as best we could & now live downstairs in the toy box

Chickensinthekitchen · 16/02/2012 21:17

Bleach! Squeeze the air out so it fills with bleach soak overnight then squeeze in out with fresh water then dishwash.

Pain in the bottom!

PestoPenguin · 16/02/2012 21:20

Oh I hate bath toys!

  1. Bin them
  2. Never lett another squirty bath toy cross the threashold of your house again
  3. buy a cheap set of stacking cups (preferably with holes in) and maybe some cheap plastic funnels, eg from IKEA
  4. Rinse and dry the toys after every bath.
  5. Replace regularly
