Which mop do I want?! Lakeland v Vileda

I have a tiled kitchen floor, a 3.5yo and an 8mo that loves her finger food, mushed veggies and may well be in the move in the near future, too. I need to clean the floor more regularly, but I am really rather lazy. I just need something that will make frequent clean up jobs a bit easier.

So, GH ladies, I've found a couple of products which might help. But which would you choose?

Vileda spray flat mop

Lakeland Smart mop

C'mon ladies, don't let me down. There must be a Monica out there!

IMO neither - I've had a few like this and they don't work very well.

Of the two I would get the lakeland, but I would spray the floor with kitchen cleaner first and then rub it over with the damp smart mop (so in effect using it like a cloth and spray cleaner on the benches).

I would stick with a mop and bucket, you will only be saving a minute or two in time with the mops you mention!

I've just ordered a steam cleaner which has a floor attachment which I am hoping will solve this problem

Bossybritches22 · 14/02/2012 15:24

stringmop

Throw 'em in a hot wash once a week & replace when they get too grotty.

daenerysstormborn · 14/02/2012 15:28

i am a bit of a monica and also have wooden floors throughout the whole of downstairs, have always used the vileda magic mop

anniewoo · 14/02/2012 19:55

Those mops won't fit into a bucket to rinse. More important to have a 2 compartment bucket so you are not just spreadung the dirt around!

TheNewandImprovedMrsHollywood · 14/02/2012 22:08

Thanks for all comments, ladies. Steam mops?! String mops?! You are referring to a world of cleaning not hitherto entered by me.

I think I'll go for the Lakeland one, slowly come to the realisation that my old mop and bucket was better, buy a string mop and make DH use it.

Thanks again!

I just got a vileda one and i think its pretty good, i am going to be saving for a steam mop though, as no mop ever gets my tiles totally clean

StarryEyedMama · 14/02/2012 22:17

Do look at the Lakeland Steam mops - they sound like just what you need. I have the shark one from their and it's fantastic - never have my floors been so clean and in such little time!

justanuthermanicmumsday · 14/02/2012 22:26

ive tried all the different types of mops and gone back to the traditional one my mum always used, the cotton strip mop. ive never seen them in major supermarkets though, i get mine in the asian stores. theyre not expensive so can be replaced frequently. some of these mops are rubbish in construction, so if its open give the string a firm tug if it comes loose u know its the wong one.

try and get screw on or click heads. the old style ones use metal fixtures, u need to nail it on, then it's icky trying to remove it.

i tried steam but i cant live without detergent being used i seriously am ocd, so i returned it lol

I have the JML super mop and it's fantastic. I have had it around 5 years and it has not broken (though of course have changed the squidgey bit). It's brilliant, particularly on wood and laminate, though I also have tiles. Floor dries very quickly and it gets the stuff up.

TeaOneSugar · 15/02/2012 10:34

I mop and disinfect my tiled kitchen floor, at least once a day, often 2 or 3 times, due to an elderly dog with issues.

I always use a cheap strip mop as Bossy says they can go in the washer and they're cheap enough to replace regularly.

valiumredhead · 15/02/2012 15:11

Lakeland one - I know because I have tried them ALL

I have had it over a year and it is fantastic and nothing like ones similar in other shops.

melika · 15/02/2012 15:19

Steam mop and you will know it is really clean, morphy richards do one about £110 with attachments for all sorts. That's what I use now.

TheNewandImprovedMrsHollywood · 16/02/2012 07:11

Damn you lot and your introduction to steam mops! I am now definitely considering one of those!

Regarding detergent, I occasionally spray a household cleaner like flash kitchen every few swipes of the floor with my super steam mop! It goes a long way.Wink

valiumredhead · 16/02/2012 10:01

Steam mops are about as useless good as Babyliss Big Hair imo Wink

MerryMarigold · 16/02/2012 10:06

If they are as good as the MN haircut, I'm going to ask for one for my birthday! (Seriously).
