Can anyone recommend a decent dehumidifier?

Pretty please :).

My house is suffering badly from condensation and I remember reading that a dehumidifier can help correct this.

I've just had to throw out a 3 drawer chest plus contents as everything was soaked through and growing mildew.

Thanks

I have a Value brand dehumidifier and its fine!

More crucially allow air flow (try to avoid furniture up close to outside walls),keep the house warm and ventilate!

I got this one last month. It's helped, although it needs to be turned up high in cold weather. If your budget allows you might prefer a more powerful one :)

Depends on your budget, but I have a Mitsubishi and it is fabulous

Thank you :)

That's where I've gone wrong, had the drawers against the outside wall, house is always heated but the window in that room doesn't open so not aired properly - I'll have to sort that out ASAP.

I'm relieved, I thought I was going to have to spend big bucks!

Even before I got a dehumidifier I had solved that particular problem (learned the hard way like you) by shuffling furniture away from outside walls. But the dehumidifier certainly helps with "damp smells" and when a room just feels generally damp. If the window doesn't open well just try wedging the internal door open when you can as I find that helps. Good luck - I know how unfunny it is to have to chuck good clothes out.

Thanks countess, I've moved all furniture away from the wall but its a really small room (bedroom) so I'm limited in where I can actually position stuff. At least its not touching the wall now and air can get through.

My landlord is going to get the window lock replaced so hopefully the dehumidifier and better ventilation should help dry the room out.

Still very annoyed about my clothes though I keep telling myself at least it wasn't my shoes or make-up, Grin

My dehumidifier arrived today, I'm very excited and can't wait to set it up. I'm such a loser Grin

Yay! I was the same Grin

Wait till you see what you get out of it!

I've had mine a couple of months and I can still hardly contain my excitement when I go to empty it.

One of life's small pleasures,I think!

TheBigmouthBugle · 17/02/2012 14:38

Do they take a while to get going though? I've had mine on for about 3 hours and there are only a few drips in the tray, and I've put it in the wettest room.

I think emptying the tray is going to be up there with cleaning the filter on my condenser dryer - I LOVE that job Grin

I first used mine overnight so I'm not sure but it works better in warmth I find - getting lots more now its not so cold.

These are things we have been kidded into thinking we need!

It's ok, the tank is half full now

Valium I can't, the window doesn't open!

The room feels drier already, might be psychological though Grin

soverylucky can you run an extension from another plug?
