You can buy black spray if that's what you mean.
Got our from specialist fireplace shop, but could try B and Q or one of those places.
Even though I have this, I'm leaving it until I've lit the last fire of the winter.

I wash my cast iron fireplace with soapy water, dry it with kitchen paper and then rub it with baby oil. brings it up all lovely and black again.

If you have a good hardware shop nearby try to get some Zebo paste. It is made specially for cast iron fireplaces and grates. My Nanna used to use it on her Rayburn and I use it on my fireplaces.

I have a feeling that an oily product will make it gleam, but is going to attract dust and dirt to stick to the surface, so it will not easily dust off.

I use a special black paste for wood burners. Rub it in witha brush and buff off with a cloth.

I cleaned mine thoroughly today as its had quite a lot of use so far this year.

I polished all the brass

Cleaned the glass

And re-blacked it.

Looks like new! :)

You dust them Confused? Ours burns the dust off, although we do periodically clean the glass.
