Curtains and blinds for a dormer style window

Anyone got any experiences or ideas?

We have dormer windows in the upstairs rooms. I've got venetian blinds in all the bedrooms- ours is a wooden one. previously I had roman blinds, in the recess, but they ended up mouldy on the window side due to condensation.

The problem with the blind is that there is a half inch gap down each side which allows light in- and this wakes me up early. We have a silly black out affair which we manage to fix up every night!

I don't know what other solutions there are for recessed dormers like this. Curtains would get wet against the window, and outside the recess would make IMO the room look smaller.

DH ( bless him) suggested curtains in front of the wood blind but still in the recess Hmm

How we could fit a curtain pole there beats me.

be grateful for any ideas or ways any one has of dressing their dormer windows to exclude light. I don't want a black out roller blind because I know there is always that gap down the sides.

What is your dormer window like? Measurements and the like?

it's a recess measuring about 120 x 120 cms , and it's about 9 inches deep.

The celing slopes obviously, so to hang a curtain rail outside the recess it would seem to be be quite far into the room IYSWIM.

It's a normal, modern style house but with a cottagy feel- hence the dormers. It's not an extension in the roof or anything.

Have you tried a dormer rail?

what is a dormer rail?

TBH looking at the window again, the overhang from the ceiling is more like 15 inches away from the recess- so any curtains would be that far in from the glass. The ceiling is not level either- it's curved.
