Pillows and duvet

My pillows and duvet are starting to feel a bit old and grubby. They are only cheap tesco ones, so doubt if they are filled with anything remotely natural! Is there anything I can do to wash them, or am I better off throwing them out and starting again? Can they go in the wash or will that just leave them flattened and patchy? Thanks!

i would chuck em....

i have dunlopillo and i love them, i use pillow protectors. i have had them for years. expensive but so worth it!

I buy tesco value ones for the winter to use as snuggle up blankets (live in the country and it's feckin freezing) and I can fit the single one for the cat (yes he has his own) in the machine.

It's never gone funny.

I'm assuming it's a double or bigger you have though so perhaps the local launderette would be able to accommodate it? I havent been in one in years but I imagine they cant be that pricey but it depends how your fixed and if buying another one is a problem .

TK Maxx and Homesense do cheapish duvets.

Vicar I have Dunlopillo pillows too. God I love them. No going back to naff ones now. I washed one in the machine recent. It twisted a bit inside its stitched cover, but easily straightened out with a bit of wrestling. Took ages to dry on a radiator though.

I bought a duck down one 10 years ago for around 100 and it is still going strong. It was definitely worth the money. I have it dry cleaned each year and I have a cheaper (not down one) for summer. I bought 2 Tempur pillow when I bought my new bed about 6 years ago and I love them. They were pricey at 80 each but so worth it. They come with great protectors on them.

Ikea do really nice pillows and duvets, they're quite expensive (you want the ones with lots of down in them, although DS chose the very cheapest single duvet and it's great too) but they're lovely and we've had ours for years. You could try and wash your Tesco's ones and if it destroys them just buy some new ones.
