Charging Hand held hoovers

I know this has been done to death - sorry!

I'm thinking of buying something like this for the living room after DS has a snack and deposits crumbs everywhere - as getting the full dyson out every time is getting really irritating. I'm also thinking it might be good for the stairs for just a quick going over if guests are coming.

My questions are:
? approximately how long do they take to charge? (I'm thinking about setting it up with a time clock so it charges in the morning ready to use - so a rough guide would be appreciated)

? are they effective? (I'm not looking for a dyson/miele level clean, just to get rid of obvious crumbs/fluff)

? would my DS be able to use it? Wink not entirely serious on this question!

Anyone able to answer these?

Thanks!

I have a very similar hoover one (not sure if exact same model) and it's crap. I love handheld vacuums for the same reasons as you (quicker and easier etc) but that one is rubbish. I'd look at a different make personally!

It does hold charge for a good while though. But it can barely suck air, never mind crumbs. Angry

Hi
I have just bought a new one. I can't work out how to do the link but I bought it from Amazon.
It's a Black and Decker 18v Pivot Dustbuster.
It's the most powerful hand held vac I've used. Can't help you with charging times as haven't recharged mine yet. I use it for the car and also for the cat litter that my cats like to fling around.
It's never going to be as good as normal vacuum cleaner but it's pretty good.

I have a corded one, the cord is really long and it's a really good Hoover. I can't remember what it's called though..... Better than any cordless ones

Ouch. The Black&Decker is out of my price range :-(

Wouldn't mind corded I don't think - just really after quick and small not large and heavy. Cordless would mean one less thing to worry about with DS though...

Hmm, back to the drawing board I think!

I'll send George my 5 month old kitten over. He will eat anything and everything in his path....we should have called him Dyson.

Bought the dyson hand held- cost a small fortune! But i am wondering why i didn't get one ages ago instead of faffing about with a cheaper (crappy) one.

I second the dyson hand held.....I wouldn't be without it.

dyson handheld with the long detachable hose (cant remember model number sorry) is THE BEST THING I bought last year. Stretch to this is you can, use i multiple times a day and in fact it has almost replaced the actual hoover. BUY ONE - fab fab fab in particular for stairs and quick hoover under table after every chimps tea party I mean meal with the children.

Have had black and decker type ones in the past, this wipes the floor with them.
