Soaking in v hot water with a whole dishwasher tablet works well.

Simmer with some dishwashing powder. Though I find that tends to give off a yukky smell.

Citric acid works a treat - it's a more 'natural' substance and doesn't smell. You'll find it in the baking aisle in the supermarket. I used to work in food manufacturing and that is what the girls in the test kitchen used to do. Put a couple of tablespoons in the pan, cover with water and simmer until the gunk starts to lift off. 20 mins, usually.

God just throw it away and get a new one! Surely the time you are spending trying to find a solution is worth more than the pan! Unless it is Le Creuset of course.

you ought to say if it is stainless, non-stick or enamelled iron.

Acid cleaners are bad for aluminium, and enamel can be damaged or roughened.

StealthPolarBear · 29/01/2012 23:30

ooh sorry everyone and sorry olivia Blush
It's meant to be non-stick, but it's the stickiest non-stick I've ever seen Hmm. Not teflon coated. Not sure what it's made of.
The oven pride got off the vast majority of it, it just needs another go through the dishwasher hopefully.
