Scummy bath?

White bath with dirty scummy marks around the top.

Any ideas on what will help remove it I've tried alsorts but it just seems to spread it around. When I type that it sounds really horrid.

Thanks for any ideas :)

I love Method "Tub n Tile"- smells gorgeous too!

Use a microfibre cloth to catch stuff from spreading :)

"Bath Power" is good. God knows what's in it, but it shifts anything!

PigletJohn · 27/01/2012 18:27

have you tried the spay bathroom cleaners? they shift limescale and soap deposits, and the grime mixed into them. If it is an enamel steel bath then, after letting it soak in, you can use a green nylon pan scourer, but on a plastic bath, just a sponge.

Run a bath with bio washing powder in, leave a couple of hours, take plug out and wipe round as water drains, then rinse - job done :o

Thanks for the posts. On Phone app so I can't see people's names.

No just bog standard bath. It's sort of right around the rim in line or just above the overflow bit.

Dp comes home black everyday but it's only in the last couple of months I've noticed the disgustingness sticking around.

I've tried sprays, bleach, leaving bath full of really hot water and scrubbing but it doesn't seem to go anywhere.

I'll give the wash powder a try next Smile

if it's a ring high up, I bet it'll be skin oil or hair mixed with exfoliated skin. If you are a motor mechanic or something it might be dirty oil that sweats out of the pores in hot water.

a scrub with WUL or bathroom spray will get it off, but it will oxidise and harden if left. If wiped round with WUL and rinsed off each time that should stop it building up.

More bath foam should prevent it. Bleach won't.

Cleaned mine today with a wet microfibre cloth dipped into bicarb of soda. The bicarb really cuts through gunk - it acts a gentle scourer, and it's eco-friendly, and cheap.

My bath really needed a good scrub & it looks sparkling now.

A cream cleaner like Cif should get rid of the scummy marks Smile. I also use method tub and tile but if there are any stubbon marks Cif tends to get rid of them.

Beamur · 01/02/2012 14:46

I'd go for Cif too, sounds like you need something gently abrasive.

Are you in a hard water area?

Get a water softner fitted. You will be amazed how little, and how easy it is, to clean bathrooms etc. I was.

It sounds mad but try that Arm and Hammer whitening toothpaste. I swear to god its the only thing that cleaned my manky bath and i tried everything

toddle · 02/02/2012 07:23

Thanks for all the tips I tried the washing up liquid and it worked a treat Smile

I'm really shocked how simple it was after all the things I tried.
