Hand Blenders (boring, I know)

My ancient hand-blender just gave up on me. DO I replace it with a value one for £4 or a super-dooper Kenwood, as recommended by Which? for £36? Shock Don't they all do the same thing?

I used my old one at least once a week for soup and occasionally custard -

You need to go over to the Living in America thread, and start talking there, and then you will be given the answer. Wink

The £4 will last for about 4 uses. The motor will burn out and you will have to buy another one. I would have another look at Which and also reviews on Amazon and Argos. I have a Bamix which is brilliant. I have had it for several years and expect it to last for several more, but it did cost £££££.

errr, the cheap ones don't always break! my hinari one, which cost £5, has lasted over 10 years before finally breaking last week.

Grockle · 22/01/2012 20:10

Mme Bucket, I haven't been over there in ages. Will pop in Grin

I might go for the expensive one as a treat

It was the other way round in our house! I bought the kenwood blender for weaning, and we were given the £4 asda one by HV in the weaning pack. Both had equal use and inly the cheapie is still alive Grin.

Grockle · 22/01/2012 20:11

Oh daenery, maybe I should reconsider!

Ok, I know that mine are American, so probably not too helpful, but once I used some vouchers I got for Christmas and bought an expensive Cuisinart one, and it lasted for maybe 3 months before it just stopped working. Then I replaced it with a cheap-o Target one, and it has been working for over 3 years.

HandMini · 22/01/2012 20:54

I got a Kenwood triblade from Argos. They had them at £19.99 reduced from £30. It's been great so far and has had daily use for about 2 months (weaning food).

I would go for a Dualit one - they are highly recommended by Which? and they have the build quality.

I went mad and bought a Bamix - I'm heavy handed and it will last as the motor is very powerful.

Marking place as appear to have lost my blending stick (still got working motor) but Braun have changed style since 1999 so can't get a spare.

Grockle · 23/01/2012 17:18

I didn't see Dualit on WHich? I shall have another look. DP arrived home with an Asda value one for £4.13!

.... and how did it work? Is it ok? Still going strong? I need to get one (for weening) and really don't know which one to get

Iwantmybed · 10/03/2013 20:49

I have a Tesco value one from years ago. Was only £5-10 still going strong after about 5 years. I use it for soups and weaning. I also have a normal blender and food processor but the hand held gets the most use as its easy to clean.

Grockle · 10/03/2013 21:00

My cheap Asda one is still working fine. Worth the £4 Grin

I got a brand new metal one and it ruined my non stick saucepan which I always use for soups. The whole point of hand blenders as far as I see is to use directly in saucepans for soups and sauces, and no washing. I'm going to go back to the cheap ASDA one. I want more power though. Any suggestions? Oh and it must be dishwasher friendly,
