Recommend me a good floor mop please

Our kitchen floor is stone tiles with a deep grout which has lots of lumps and bumps on it and nothing cleans it properly except a scrubbing brush with me on my hands and knees which is time consuming and back ache inducing to do multiple times a week and I'm lazy

We tried this one but the bumps in the floor just tore the sponge on first use Hmm . Then we had this one which the spray nozzle limescaled up within a month. There must be something decent out there - any recommendations?

I have the same floor as you by the sounds of it. I use a commercial mop and bucket. These are the ones I use. A socket string mop head and the commercial pole lets you put your back into it! Lasts for ever in a domestic setting!

reastie · 20/01/2012 18:19

oreo excellent idea - might give that a go Grin

I use the E cloth from Lakeland - brilliant and I tried loads beforehand.

valiumredhead · 20/01/2012 18:27

I have the same floor as you.

reastie · 20/01/2012 18:39

valium I have tons some ecloths - your still on the floor scrubbing on bended knee though using them which is what I want to try and avoid Hmm

i've given up with traditional mops and have gone over to a steam mop, i had the black and decker one but it wasn't much good so i sent it back and got the vax one which is brilliant and was only £40 on amazon.

DorisIsWaiting · 20/01/2012 20:28

I thing similar to the comercial mops linked to, i.e. more traditional mop head style but with a wringer function. I have a toddler and am a slattern have impacted wetabix regularly I normally pre treat the floor with whatever floor cleaner I have handy in a spray bottle, leave it for 10 a few minutes then mop. I find it saves hugely on the scrubbing time. this is like mine here

reastie · 20/01/2012 21:11

Good idea doris

neurotic I love the idea of a steam mop but I'm not convinced it would clean down into the crevices in the bumpy floor Hmm

I have the JML mop but tend to use it with a bucket instead of the self wringer, has cut my mopping time in half.

valiumredhead · 21/01/2012 14:27

The Lakeland E mop has a built in scrubby thing on the side!

reastie · 21/01/2012 18:38

valium that emop just doesn't look like it woudl cut it on my floors Hmm

sassy interesting mop - think i saw that in tesco. Like the idea of it cuttign mopping in half Grin

DH has suggested I buy a broom (like a wooden handled bristle broom) and use that to scrub and then a teatowel to mop up the excess water Hmm . Maybe that's better than back ache from scrubbing on the floor. Honestly, our grout and tiles are so lumpy bumpy I'm not sure if the mops in here would really manage to clean the floor really well.

Microfibre is the way to go. I wouldn't go anywhere near an old fashioned soaking wet, swish the water around mop.

I have this one. you can ge replacement thingies and one for laminate or other floor types. and you can maschine wash it if it needs it.

Alouisee · 22/01/2012 14:21

I feel your pain, we have pale marble with plenty of dips which catch grime and cream grouting which was once clean. The grout was ruined by the mop and bucket method because I had a cleaner who didnt feel the need to change the water before she washed the kitchen floor.

I've used the shark steam mop for a few months now and the surface of the marble is always smooth and clean now and the grout is beyond repair but looking more acceptable these days. The microfiber mop is good for quick spills or applying a coating.

valiumredhead · 22/01/2012 14:31

Yeah looks lightweight - but believe me I have tried every mop out there and have stuck with the Lakeland one that curtain linked to. Our floors get filthy and this gets them sparkling, I use a squirt of floor cleaner in some water and wring it out and Bob's your uncle.

reastie · 22/01/2012 18:21

alouisee Angry to your cleaner - how annoying. We moved into my parents old house (they moved out - we're not sharing Grin ) and my mum isn't exactly a domestic godess and had never ever scrubbed the tiles/grout for the 20 years she had the kitchen (just a feeble mop) and when I did the floor actually came out a different colour Shock Wink

I've gone and ordered a steam mop similar to alouisees - I've decided this should do a decent job and it looks quite fun on a daily basis and every month or so I'll just scrub the grout as and when it needs it. If this doesn't work I think I'm going to try to lakeland one vallium and curtain have. Thank you all for your help

Alouisee · 22/01/2012 18:38

It is quite fun Hmm even dh doesn't mind brandishing it if the need arises and I fill the water reservoir and put the cover on

reastie · 22/01/2012 19:11

are covers for these things generally washable alouisee or am I going to have to spend a fortune on new ones every time?

OP posts:
Alouisee · 22/01/2012 19:43

No! Totally washable.

reastie · 22/01/2012 21:23

Has anybody got the kentucky bucket and mop system, hubby is intent on buying one and for £60 I was thinking there has to be something more modern to do the job but he's positive that it's the best!!

valiumredhead · 24/01/2012 13:58

Yes, you will toy with the steam mop, realise they are crap and then order from Lakeland Wink

reastie · 24/01/2012 16:51

vallium my mop should arrive in the next couple of days - I will let you know how crap it is Grin

OP posts:
Alouisee · 24/01/2012 17:06

I didn't like my first steam mop, I am bowled over by the Shark though.

bessie26 · 27/01/2012 19:23

Is it any good OP?
