Does anybody use a cheese larder?

my relatives had one about 45 years ago in their holiday cottage - didn't realise thats what its called. there was no fridge so this is how things were kept cooler. I remember the milk going off sometimes if it was hot. it was outside in the shade on the verander. why on earth do you want one? I don't remember it being very efficient...except in winter maybe.

Oh, it was for cheese I'm serving or keeping (temporarily) at room temperature.

We have a cheese safe, it's not ideal to keep cheese in the fridge but we did when we didn't have room for the safe. It sounds so pretentious though!!!! DH is a real cheese snob which isn't ideal for my diet but we are where we are!

I have relatives who live on a farm in southern France and they use one of these to ripen their home-made goats cheeses :)

The cheese does ripen very quickly, though, at room temperature, so I would probably keep it in the fridge and only get it out a day or two before eating...

A cheese board would be just as good and less cumbersome, IMO, unless you're producing/eating huge quantities of cheese and want to keep them all at differnet stages of maturity Hmm
