Strange how everyone has different words for different things!!

It's amazing how we all manage to communicate through the English language - what would happen if everyone resorted to their dialects or phrases from their part of the country - would we all need a universal translator???? For instance anyone out there know what a Gansy is?? Apologies to all Geordies if I have the spelling wrong - but it's a jumper. It would be interesting wouldn't it??

My southern friends don't use that, but I was brought up in the north where it's always used.

And dad says 'oh, she's got the monk on' !!
Monk sounding like 'munk'

erm, geansai (can't do the fada over the i) is irish for jumper.

so not in fact the english language at all!

Gansy/ geansai is gaelic for jumper.

Another Geordie one is Snadjer (?spelling) to mean a swede (vegetable type)!
