What is the best way to clean the grill?

The grill in our oven is disgusting and it all needs a really good clean. But what is the best thing to use for it?

I want to look pretty much brand new but if possible without the horrible chemical smell. I'm pregnant and the smell of chemicals makes me sick at the minute.

Help me get a clean grill please? Smile

have you got a dishwasher?

how filthy is it?

Kayzr · 10/01/2012 12:58

Nope no dishwasher. Its pretty bad. DP did bacon on it the other day and its full of yukky burnt grease.

Do you mean the actual oven or the grill pan?

Kayzr · 10/01/2012 13:40

The grill pan

Oh well, get a fork or spoon and scrape fat off the pan into the bin, then fill sink with hot soapy water. Do you have any of that wire washing wool stuff? I use a sponge with scourer for the wire rack first front and back, then run sponge over the pan to get fat off, then I use wire wool stuff to get rid of burnt on bits. Check to make sure it doesn't take the coating off though but it shouldn't, mine doesn't anyway. Then finally wash with running water Smile

Oven Pride every time! Doesn't smell too bad. Just pop it into the bag provided, leave overnight, rinse off. Doesn't get much easier than that!

I sometimes boil em up on the hob.

p.s. don't pour cooking fat down the sink as it causes blockages.

Try

  1. Oven pride - easily available in supermarket
  2. Oven mate cleaning gel - a bit dearer from lakeland but works wonder. I usually use this on oven rack and BBQ rack. The rack comes out very clean. I didn't bother to buy the massive tray (occupy too much space), I just leave the rack outdoor.
  3. Soak the grill pan in hot soapy water for 20 mins and brush the surface.

I hate washing up grill, so I usually line the pan with foil. So I just need to clean the grill rack and just chuck out the foil (no washing and no fat down the drain Grin).

Oh, if you are willing to splash out, get the 'Fat trapper' at £5.49 for 10 pads. It's a pad that absorb the fats in the grill pan, so no washing up Wink.

Ovenmate from Lakeland. Definitley works.

Of course, I don't really have a skanky grill.
