Wondering what some of the MNetters tricks were.
I've spent the weekend having a bit of a sort out and spring cleaning a few places (like my DD's bedroom) to get a head start.

Currently I have built up a few habits that seem to work

  • I don't iron unless something desperately needs it and then I spend 2 mins doing it as needed in the morning.
  • I have trained the OH to make the kids packed lunches if they need them. *Every morning I empty and reload the dishwasher that has been on in the evening before after tea (is a slimline one so it is filled in a day usually) *I vacuum after OH leaves as the kids are getting all their stuff together to go so that we come home to a clean floor.
  • When I brush my teeth in the evening I straighten up in the (tiny) bathroom and wipe down the sink and the mirror on the cupboard if it needs it.

The theory of grabbing a few minutes here and there to keep on top of things seems to be the way for me.

Any other easy/time efficient ideas?
TIA

Bulk cook meat and freeze it so then you only have to add vegetables/pasta/rice/salad.Also-do a meal plan at the start of each week.
Never leave a room empty handed-so you are always moving things back to where it goes
deal with paperwork straight away and have a file for everything house-related in a-z order
I have a charity shop bag on the go all the time-at the bottom of my wardrobe-I then put things in it that we don't need anymore and take it to the charity shop when it's full.

Getting everyone to tidy up after themselves .....easier said than done ime

You don't need to Hoover & clean the bathroom every day!

Thanks for the hints.

I've started a charity bag and will keep adding to it.
I'm nagging the others to tidy up after themselves - to differing results. DD1 loves pottering around tidying her room, then will leave it to get into a miss, then tidy up again. DD2 has a tiny room that gets in a mess easily which is why we did her room today. Their rooms and their laundry is their responsibility on a weekly basis if they want their pocket money.
The bathroom doesn't get cleaned daily, just has the sink wiped out if it needs it.
Unfortunately, my galaxy chocolate brown carpet - while lovely - shows every speck and does need hoovering daily, but I only do the living room/diner daily and the rest is done weekly.
