Hi gang,
Well hopefully i'll get a better reception than the last time i wrote. But i am currently knitting a patch blanket, you know where you knit a patch of a different coloured wool, then stitch them all together to make a blanket. I think they're great Smile....they fascinate me! BUT last time i tried it things didn't exactly work out, one wool was too think and was curling and the other too thick. This time i've got chunky wool (a happy medium Smile) and it's working out o.k. but the edges are slightly curly so i've tied the patches up to uncurl them but do any knitters out there have any advice?. Also tell me any stories about your patch blankets-i'de love to hear them!! Wink

Arts and crafts people will have good advice.

It's quite normal for knitting to do this. There's a way to lay it out and pin it that helps think it's called piecing

Stocking stitch curls. There's nothing you can do about it. Try moss stitch, ribbing or cavort things at the edge or having some patches at 90degrees to the others, or edge with a icord border.

Have alook at www.ravelry.com forum too.

Picking up stitches from one patch to start the next helps too.

Thanks everyone!!. I'm tying them up the other way!! ha ha, seems to be working so far!

Mitred squares minimise curling too. I'm doing one with hexagons knit onto each other too.

Have you tried looking at www.ravelry.com too it's a bit like mumsnet fora just for knitting and crochet!

Or you can just make a garter stitch (ie all knit stitches) border round the edges.

ReneeVivien · 12/01/2012 23:15

I'm knitting a patch blanket too! And yes, my squares are curling.

Thank you everyone Smile. It seems to be going well with me twisting them the other way!! ha ha. But yes, all seems well with them and i'm happy with the stitches I already have. Just ordered some Twilley's wool-it looks GORGEOUS!!. No, i'll try that website danceswithyarn and yes DaisySteiner I know garter stitching makes the curling problem go away but I just love the look of one side when you knit one, purl one!!. And ReneeVivien you're making one too?, I wanted a fellow patch-blanket knitter as a friend (sorry your squares are curling though Confused).
