Please can anyone tell me how to remove the yellow/crusty deodorant stains from my DH shirts, other than with scissors Grin. He uses both roll on and spray.

Watching with interest

Well really there isn't any way to remove them completely, the best thing to do is stop them setting in the first place.

First off my hubby wears a thin short sleeved vest underneath which helps.

Also, in every shirt wash I use soda crystals in the machine which works brilliantly at not only dissolving sweat, grease etc but also softens the water so helps with limescale.

Hope that helps a bit!

I will certainly try the soda crystals, but trying to change DH will be impossible. He's just got a load of new shirts for christmas & in the sales so hopefully i'll be able to stop these from staining.

Yes (how old am I) prevention is better than cure!

The crystals will work a treat and you will remember me forever...

Also get him to consider changing his deodorant to one that claims to not leave yellow marks (I'm presuming there are some in the mens range as well as the womens that do this)

Wash his shirts in bio powder. I use 3 tablespoons each of powder and soda crystals.

Heat cheapo (eg smartprice) vinegar in a saucepan untill it is warm, then soak the area in in. Leave for 10 minutes then wash on the highest temperature the shirt can take.

I've rescued tops of mine doing this. I used to use non bio but I didnt realise they use bleach to make up for no enzymes.

Hth.

Oh does that vinegar thing work? Shock is it ok with colours?

I have work shirts that I would like to sort out and they are polyester/cotton and light blue.

hellhasnofury · 03/01/2012 22:26

Vinegar has always worked on DS's stuff. I've never heated it though, just splodged it on, rubbed it in then washed as normal.

Try this company - a business in Aberdeenshire recently brought this on the market. Not tried it yet but it got great reviews in the local paper.

www.deo-go.com/

and I notice that they sell via Amazon and good reviews as well - £7

i just put white vinegar in the soap dispenser so it washes with whites and colours

I find that neither vinegar nor soda crystals remove the deodorant marks from any of our tops.

And the no-white-mark deodorant claims are lies (well, they are in my house)

:(

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. DH has created a pile of shirts which are destined for the charity shop so I will have a go on these ones first.
