Washing Powder Tablets

Odd question that's been puzzling me and I wonder if there's an answer - other than the obvious!

Anyway, normally I use loose powder in my wash, but DH brought home tablets by accident so I've been using them up. I had a few "single items" to wash (the delicates and first time washes where colour might run) so I broke a tablet into a few pieces as there was no way I was using a whole tablet for one top.

It all worked fine. But then when I was putting on a normal load and opened the packet I noticed on the side that it shows in symbols that tablets should not be broken.

Now to me, tablets are just loose powder stuck together and I can't see a reason not to break them - other than the fact that the companies want to discourage it to make more money!

Anyone know different?

yep, the more you use the more they sell! Grin I can't see any reason not to break them up either - i use loose powder too, and sometimes liquid, and never need to use as much as the manufacturers recommend (and I'm in a hard water area). The less I can use, so less money i spend, the better [tight wad emoticon].
