Freezer Recomendations

DS2 is due in the spring and I would really like to buy a second freezer to store some essentials, stock up on meals for the first couple of months and to be able to bulk buy a bit more. Our current freezer is fine but I never seeem to have enough room to buy larger packs of frozen veg etc, or store a loaf of bread for emergencies.

I'm hoping to be able to bag a bit of a bargin in the Christmas sales - which makes/models would you recommend?

I don't have space for a big chest freezer unfortunately and I don't like the small chest type freezer so I'm looking for a freestanding, front opener with drawers (the waist height type). Maximum internal space that I can get - budget is about £200.

I'd suggest uou don't get a frost-free

they are very convenient, a bit dearer, but compared to ordinary freezers (which are very reliable) they do go wrong more often. Usually it is the air ducts inside the back cover that get filled with ice, it takes about 24 hours to thaw them out, and if it is the heater or thermostat that has failed, it will happen again.

By waist height you mean about 800mm high, like a worktop?

Which best buys (best first) aound £200 (you might be lucky and get one reduced)

Ikea
Frostig SF98 scored 86% £249

Hotpoint
FZA34 83% £224

Indesit
INFS1211 80% £245

Lec
U5526W 76% £150

Hotpoint
RZA34 75% £230

Liebherr
G1221 75% £242

Ikea
Frostig BF91 74% £239

Beko
ZA630S 74% £152

Beko
ZA630W 74% £147

Zanussi
ZFT610W 73% £162

Beko
BZ30 73% £209

You will notice that a higher price does not correspond to a higher score. I was quite surprised to find that Beko, which is quite low priced, scores highly and is reliable.

Thanks for those PigletJohn - I will take that list and have a nosy around on the internet,

Yes - I mean around worktop height.

Interesting to see an Ikea appliance on the list, I would never have thought about buying a freezer there.

We have a Liebherr fridge freezer bought this year and I love it.

Feels really solid and (although it is!) doesn't feel plasticky.
