Neglected skirting boards

I tend to ignore the skirting boards when I waft round with the hoover Blush - but with the New Year approaching, a resolution is to be a better housewife!

So my question is - is it best to "dust" the skirting boards or to wipe them down with a wet cloth?

I have one of those mits with the fringey bits on that say can be used wet or dry. Would this be OK to use?

I do that too (among the other domestic bits I ignore...)

if it's just pure clean dust then your fringey things wil remove it BUT there is a tendency for the dust to waft about & resettle

naughty dust!

ecloths are fab & neater than fringey things - a damp one of those will remove it properly. (buy from eg Aldi, 2 for 99p or something & v good quality)

baby wipes work well too!

BananaPie · 20/12/2011 14:35

Or just Hoover along them with the attachment bit of the Hoover!

StuckInTheFensAwayFromHome · 20/12/2011 15:50

like banana said - use the little brush attachment on the hoover. Also use that on doors and door frames if I'm feeling particularly keen!!! :o

sometimes they need a wipe too

I use a very long handled feather duster on mine, quick swipe. In fact if the DCs are around, they happily offer Xmas Grin

Em... how often? Once a year? Or every 2 years?

jalopy · 21/12/2011 18:48

I second baby wipes.

Ponders · 21/12/2011 19:32

no set time, Rainbowe - just if the dusting attachment on your hoover doesn't shift it Grin

I've had to wipe behind the sofa (sofa not normally moved) & also in the bathroom

we get very dirty dust here - cement works in the vicinity - if you don't keep on top of it, it sticks

My bathroom skirting boards were so neglected, there was a dark grey line where edge of mop had touched over the years (difficulty bending), but this disappeared fast and now looks like new since I gave it a gentle rub with fine sandpaper.
Had to pass this on; not heard of anyone else doing this!

bigkidsdidit · 21/12/2011 21:16

Yep I do baby wipes too :)

Molehillmountain · 22/12/2011 13:43

Mine get a good wipe down every time I'm pregnant Blush. That's been roughly three yearly - but since dd2 is our last they will never be done again!

Molehillmountain · 22/12/2011 13:46

I use baby wipes too btw. Makes me slightly disturbed-if they're strong enough to clean significant dust-what do they do to baby's bottom?

MynameisnotEarl · 22/12/2011 13:56

I'm near cement works too and have never lived in such a dusty house (my excuse!)

I dust occasionally frequently but it just settles again very quickly and I find damp microfibre cloths shift it for much longer.
