Recommendations for a good affordable breadmaker

We're not looking for anything very adventurous, just something that churns out a nice loaf, is durable and reliable and fairly inexpensive (we're on a budget). Any tips would be lovely!

I would recommend Murphy Richards - 2 year warranty and good customer service. Usually sold in Argos.

I've got the standard panasonic one, which is fine, and reliable, but I'd really prefer one that has a fruit/nut dispenser because this one can't cook something like a raisin loaf overnight because you can't use the timer for progs that need things added to them after the start. It also can't handle rye or spelt flour. So, I'd go for one that can do those things, whether or not it's the next up Panasonic.

Glad this thread is here - H took our Panasonic breadmaker (which was lovely) when he moved out and I have a bit of a yearning to make some bread again but not pay the £100 or the other one cost.

I am looking at buying the Argos Value breadmaker after looking at the reviews: MrsMagnolia, just a question if you're still around - can the Argos breadmaker cope with non-wheat bread mixes? I have to make oat flour/ coconut flour/ almond flour bread and I have really had enough of either buying super-expensive bread or making endless loaves of the stuff. The breadmaker could be a breakthrough ...

My Panasonic one is at least 10 years old and still looks and bakes like new. Whenever I see breadmaker threads everyone raves about their Panasonic so I'd check out whatever is their base model.

flossiebella · 08/03/2012 06:12

My mum bought a Panasonic half price in a sale that she uses every day & has done for almost 15 years. Never had a problem with it, bakes really well etc etc.

pluckingupcourage where do you live? I have a Panasonic bread maker
I'm going to sell, absolutely nothing wrong with it, only very lightly used, I just never use it now.

PM me if you're interested (I've sold things on
Mumsnet before!)
