Accidentally put a glass medicine bottle in with the kids' wash

It is one of those days. DH is cleaning the splinters out -- any reason we can't use the machine again?

you will have to clean out the pump filter as well as throwing away whatever clothes were in the glassy wash.

if your washer contains a sludge of old soap and fabsoft, you had better give it a couple of HOT HOT HOT washes with no powder in to until it stops foaming, and keep cleaning the pump filter until it has run and least twice with no new glass appearing.

But I can understand your reluctance since tiny splinters might be lurking inside and embed themselves in clothes. Our washer is quite old so I would use that risk as a trigger to buy a new one. You can't be sure there are no splinters sticking in the rubber or plastic seals that could come out at any time. Just imagine if one got into a towl that someone used to dry their face.

Yes, if our machine was older or cheaper I would consider a new one - but it's AEG 2.5 years old. Groan. I will talk to my washing machine guy in the morning. Thanks for all that advice, I had a feeling there was no easy answer to the prospect of glass splinters being in future washes.

Thanks, my day is improving. It started with pyromaniac toddler DD turning the hob on and setting fire to a baked bean left there from yesterday. Then during the afternoon I mislaid my 82-year-old mother who had driven up to London as I was trying to show her the best way to go round Old St roundabout. She has now been located. The glass medicine bottle was my DS' antihistamine that we have to carry everywhere, it leaked all over DH's coat and was splendidly sticky. Sense of humour intact and large glass of wine beckons however.
