What's The Difference between Ocado & Waitrose Delivery?

Just saw a Waitrose delivery van at a neighbours having thought previously that they didn't deliver to our town. Ocado deliver Waitrose food too don't they? Is there a difference? They each have their own websites which seem totally independent from one another - is one better than the other (particularly since the Waitrose nearest us is a small one)?

Waitrose food is delivered via the nearest shop, and ocado is delivered from a central huge warehouse in Hertfordshire (I think). I prefer ocado, by miles :)

Oh yes and ocado do stock waitrose

Thanks - I do like the look of the Ocado website more. Are there any issues re dates/freshness with it coming from a central warehouse?

Also, how would you say Waitrose compares with M&S food halls? For the past few years, I've got up unreasonably early to drive 25 miles to buy Christmassy snacks/treaty bits etc at M&S but am now wondering whether an Ocado delivery might be just as good/less hassle!

I think Waitrose is much better these days

You will struggle to get an Ocado delivery date anywhere near Christmas if you are only going to book it now.

I'm switching from Ocado to Waitrose in the new year, Ocado don't seem to hold the whole Waitrose range and seem to be peddling their own brand far too much.

I like the Waitrose free delivery and you still get the offers that Waitrose have in store...e.g when waitrose were doing 3 for 2 on cleaning stuff they had it at that price online, Ocardo had the same things for sale, just not on offer (having done a spell living on the JSA when DH lost his job I notice theses things).

Waitrose delivery is free over £50, Ocado delivery price varies, unless you pay a flat fee and get as many deliveries as you want.

Anything that is stickered 3 for 2 in the factory, Ocado do offer, but whereas the offer in Waitrose will be any 3 for 2 from a choice of apples; oranges; plums, Ocado will offer 3 apples for 2; 3 oranges for 2 or 3 plums for 2 - does that make sense? Not many people want 3 bags of apples in one go, whereas I would happily buy the Waitrose offer to have a variety.

I work on Waitrose deliver and we offer a great service. All our items are picked and packed in store and our drivers frequently deliver to the same customers each week and build a good rapport with them. John Lewis used to have a 29% share in Ocado which they sold earlier this year so although we have an agreement for Ocado to sell our food we also compete with them. We offer free delivery on orders over £50 and the deliver side of our business is expanding fast.

The big thing about Ocado is that because they have a single warehouse they have live stock availability on their website, which means that if you see something in stock it almost always is, and you don't have to worry about substitutions.

That's the clincher for me - other than that they're just OK.

Interesting that Cazzmags states Waitrose drivers "frequently deliver to the same customers each week and build a good rapport with them". I used to work for Ocado and we very rarely ever deleivered to the same customers (In over three years I could probably count on two hands how many people i went to more than once.) This was to prevent the drivers getting to friendly with the customers and being screwed over, and also to keep the drivers on their toes. It didn't always work though as we got sick of being treated crappy by people we didn't know so quite a few of us were just rude (sorry). It also gave the drivers a a chance to mix and match the routes so they weren't always stuck in central london and got some country or seaside experience from time to time.
