Can I use an air vented tumble dryer without a hose?

Just moved into a new house and they have left a tumble dryer - on looking up the model it's an air vented one but there's no hose with it to stick out the window. Can I use it for a few days without the hose, just until I can get a washer/dryer ordered and delivered? What will happen - will it overheat or something?

It wont overheat, it will steam up your whole house with condensation until it drips down your walls!!! Not pleasant. You can buy the hoses in hardware stores though.

Yes. My Dad has an air vented dryer that is actually designed to not have a hose and it is not supposed to steam the place up. Also although mine does have a hose I have never used it and have not had dripping walls! Just make sure you have windows open nearby.

Oh dear - well, I hope to get a washer/dryer delivered over the weekend, it's just I've been moving house and have been doing washings in my old place while I've been clearing out and cleaning and taking the wet stuff round to my new place but I've nowhere to hang it up as the house is so full of boxes I can't put up the clothes horse! I could have it in the middle of the kitchen with the back door open and the back of the dryer pointing out the door maybe?

I wouldn't, I did once (in my much much younger days) there was indeed condensation everywhere, it looked as though I'd left a gigantic kettle boiling constantly for a few hours.

I have a condenser dryer now and you do tip away a lot of water so it was no wonder really.

if you air dry stuff first you can finish it off in the dryer without generating too much condensation

my dryer is in the bathroom, when the kids were small I used to take the hose off & stick their towels in there & use it to warm up the room Smile

cross post.....by the door might be ok...

Ponders · 01/12/2011 23:00

dry towels that is, before they got out of the bath

Mine vents out of the back door letterbox!

another cross post - yes, if you can get it close to the door & the wind isn't blowing in that shouldn't be too bad

your kitchen will be cold though

have a look round the back to make sure.

some machines allow you to telescope the hose down and push it into a cavity in the back.

If not you can get a new hose at a DIY shed or appliance parts shop

cheap hose

complete hit including wall duct

Mine is in the garage and have been using it for 2 years without the hose since pup dog decided the hose looked like a good toy and chewed it up.
