Help people. Have bought a new Zanussi machine being delivered at the week end - having second thoughts - WASH CYCLES TAKE FOR EVER!! 95 degree wash takes about 3 hours!! Cold fill machine, haven't had one before my machine at the moment is hot and cold fill. Has got some good/bad reports but I'm not sure. I was going to buy a BEKO machine but opted for this one a 7kg drum and 1600 spin speed. Anyone out there got something similar and how do you feel about it - need answers PDQ - do I cancel the order and go for the BEKO instead - 7kg drum and 1600 spin too. About the same price!! HELP HELP!!

Blimey Zanussi have come down in price then, I thought they were the dear ones & Beko the cheap end? (ie mine!)

Well no complaints here about my BEKO- I use it on the quick wash cycle for all but the dirtiest clothes & its great! I do longer hot washes at night.

Why on earth would you want a 95 deg wash? 60 works just as well, it's heating it up to high temps that takes the time.

bossboggle · 29/11/2011 09:26

Think this Zanussi was on offer!! No idea how long a wash takes on this thing at 60 degrees - what about the BEKO?

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 29/11/2011 09:27

hmm well are the beko cycles much shorter?
will you ever need to do a 95 degree wash?

GlaikitFizzEggNog · 29/11/2011 09:27

Does it have a quick was button? My machine does it a john Lewis one. halves the time of a load.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/11/2011 09:28

How often would you do a 95degree wash though? I've never done one in 20 years! Find out how long hte 40degree wash takes.

bossboggle · 29/11/2011 09:50

Thanks people!! Much appreciated.

Bossybritches22 · 29/11/2011 09:58

My BEKO takes about 90 minutes I think, on quick wash never timed it just know it's quicker than on full cycle & gets the job done!

AMumInScotland · 29/11/2011 10:14

I've got a Zanussi and it takes about 2 hours for the 40 degree ordinary wash - it was a shock after having a hot&cold fill one before, it just takes so much longer for the machine to heat the water up for you as it goes.

It also has a 45 minute quick-wash at 40.

If its a mega-issue for you, and your machine is on so much of the time that the length of the cycle has to come down, then I guess maybe thinking about a hot&cold fill one might make sense, but there seem to be far fewer of those around these days.

littleducks · 29/11/2011 10:24

I would cancel the Zanussi, I got a brand new machine last week, after the less than 3yr old Zanussi died (heater busted but once that was replaced turns out the control board was gone too). It took forever to wash and the clothes weren't actually all that clean. The repair man said steer clear of Zanussi.

QuintessentialMercury · 29/11/2011 10:28

I have had 2 zanussis, loved them both.

You dont need 95 degree washes! These days machines are so good, and detergent so efficient that 60 degrees is enough.

Zanussi is owned and made by AEG these days...

Solo · 29/11/2011 10:29

they don't make em like the used to. My Zanussi was 20 years and 5 months old when the bearings went and I still miss it with its 800 spin speed. Best machine ever.

My Mum has a Zanussi (second one after long service original) that is about 17 years old. Fabulous machines imo.

Solo · 29/11/2011 10:30

And I only ever use 40 degree washes btw.

PigletJohn · 29/11/2011 11:47

What model number is it?

If you tell us that we can look it up on "Which."

PigletJohn · 29/11/2011 11:56

AEG and Zanussi are both brand names owned by Electrolux.

[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolux#Brands see here]

AEG went bust in 1982 and the company ceased to exist in 1996

QuintessentialMercury · 29/11/2011 12:16

Ah, thanks PigletJohn, I knew there was something! But clearly my memory of such events just failed me. Grin

Chandon · 29/11/2011 12:29

piglet, really?

I have 4 year old AEG washer.

......weird, how does that work

bossboggle · 29/11/2011 12:57

Its a Zanussi ZWH 6160P and I would have no idea how to find it on Which so any info would be most appreciated!!

I honestly would not touch these machines. They are not well-engineered - I believe they do not have a completely stainless steel drum, but use a concrete weight to give the effect of one around a comparatively thin drum, which means they rapidly fail in many cases. Can you spend a bit more and get an entry level Miele? They last 20 years and are very reliable, plus quick as well.

LadyWellian · 29/11/2011 13:35

I'm very happy with my Zanussi. The Jetsystem wash takes 2.26 on 60 or 2.11 on 40 but only if it's completely full - anything under a full load and it adjusts accordingly (by anything up to an hour). As someone else mentioned there is a 40 min quick wash programme too.

Of course I'd buy a Miele if I could afford one - wouldn't we all? But I'm not sure I'd trust Beko after the burning fridges episode.

PromiseFalls · 29/11/2011 14:34

I have a zanussi, the 95 cotton wash on mine does take 3 hours, but there is a quick cottons which takes 1hour 30 mins on 60, or 1 hour 45mins on 95.

I tend to wash most things on the 40 colour wash which takes 1 hour, the quick wash is even faster.

I had a beko before it, hated it, the standard 40 wash used to take 2 hours & 30mins

PigletJohn · 29/11/2011 16:08

hello chandon
"piglet, really?

it works because Electrolux bought the brand name. The also own the Zanussi brand name, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Parkinson-Cowan and many others. This enables them to sell their products to people who like those brands. They can stick a name badge of their choice on a machine of their choice

Our Zanussi is over 20 years old ! Always been cold fill only and only had the man out once . How often do you need a 95o wash ? The one I use most at 50o takes about 45 minutes
