Is there a secret to washing up stuff covered in dough?

Just that really. Bread dough fucks up whatever cloth/brush/sponge that goes near it but is too stubborn to come off without the application of friction. There must be a clever tip.

If you leave it till it's dry it just scrapes off IM (slatternly) E

i use my fingers to wash most of it off and to mash it down the plughole

then i wash it again using a sponge.

I turn the tap on as fast as it'll go, so that the water pressure gets rid of as much as possible and it goes down the plug hole. Then recruit the pot brush to assist in getting the rest off.

Of course, then I have to use my fingers to pull the goo out of the brush, but it's easier than getting it off a cloth.

Dont use a brush, cloth or sponge.

Secret is not to wet it until you have got rid of most of it and then just dissolve the rest. In commercial bakeries they use a dry scraper to get dough off counter tops and and just sweep the floor. They then steam clean once a week.

I tend to scrape off what I can andthen leave to soak in water for an hour and swill it away once dissolved.

you can add more flour and sort of knead it off.

I knew you lot would know! Thanks, great tips. I did consider adding more flour but wet flour is a bit messy too so wasn't sure if I was just adding to the problem.

Leave to dry and then soak suits my not so inner procrastinator, I like.

you don't do the flour adding thing and then soak the whole floury mess in water, that would be counter-productive. Smile

You can use a spare credit card to scrape the flour off the worktop. Lakeland sells a gadget that does a similar job...something like this

Ice scraper

Do not use hot water! It can cook the flour, and then it is much harder to get off.
