I am trying hard to declutter. Small house, 3 dc, 1 6ft8 dh, a big dog, a med dog and a guinea pig.... need i say more!!

I am having a car boot in a fortnight, currently dining table piled high with stuff i have sorted to take. Mostly kids clothes all nice things like boden, h&m, vertbaudet etc.

So big question is WHAT do i do with the stuff i dont manage to sell at car boot? Have had a couple before but i have so much stuff not sure i can cope with having to reorganise it in the attic til next car boot but not really keen to chuck it in recycling bin. I need to be ruthless but i'm finding it hard.

HELP!!!!!!!

Charity shop!

What is the most pressing aim here? Getting rid of the stuff, or getting money for it? If you need the money, then I guess you have to stow it neatly somewhere till the next carbott - or you could try selling it on Gumtree ,or eBay.

But if what you need most of all is the space back, then I think just being rid of it by any means may have to take precedence.

Or a combined approach? Anything that is valuable for its size gets sold, but the cheap&bulky gets ditched?

wolf i did consider this but i suppose i find it hard to just hand it all over as could really do with a few extra quid. But also desperately need the space.
amuminscotland i think that is a great idea to do a combination, just keep the best bits and can do a sale after christmas and all the other stuff can go to charity shop.

OP you'll be surprised what gets sold at a carboot if you want rid just take any offers!

It sounds like you have nice stuff like boden etc which should sell well but you do realise for only about £1/ 50p an item?

If it's in really good nick then you'll make more on Ebay although that is a phaff if you're not used to it!

iambach · 22/11/2011 10:50

bossy i have had a car boot before so yes realise that even nice stuff you dont get much more than a quid for. Im fine with that as love to get a bargain at them myself! I did consider ebay but i hate it. Have bought items recently and recieved things that are little more than rags imo and the whole hassle of it puts me off.

Do you or your oh pay tax? Do you wish you had more spare cash to give to charity? Charity shops can gift aid and you get a letter after a couple of months telling you how much your stuff has made. My last clear out made £180 for barnardo's and I felt so damn worthy for ages. The massive advantage of charity shops is that you can get rid of things so quickly.

cookingfat · 22/11/2011 16:46

I think you need to just get more ruthless. Whatever doesn't sell gets taken to the charity shop or for recycling on the way back from the car boot sale. Once it's left your house, don't let it back in! Good luck Grin

How did it go iambach?

Did you get rid of loads? Grin
