How do I get rid of the limescale in my kettle using white vinegar?

Do I boil the vinegar in the kettle? Or not? Do I leave it overnight and how much should I use? Ours urgently needs doing as it is horrible!

I boil half water half vinegar in the kettle (twice) then leave overnight if I can. You probably only need a couple of capfuls of vinegar though and enough water to cover the limescale.

Then boil again in the morning, empty out, rinse and boil with fresh water (repeat if necessary, vinegar scented tea isn't pleasant)

I put in half vinegar, half water to cover the element and turn it on with the lid off. Watch it as it heats up, the vinegar makes the water boil over before the cut out works. Once it's almost at boiling point, switch off and leave overnight. Empty out and rinse several times in the morning. I boil and discard the water at least once too

Thank you! I am going to do it tonight.

I put cold asda smartprice vinegar in the kettle, boil it and it's all gone.

Rinse twice and that's it.

I keep an eye on it but its never even come close to boiling over.

You might want to close the door and open the window as boiling vinegar smells lots!!! Also it is eye watering when you go back to the kitchen if you forget to do this.

I don't bother boiling it - just leave it for a little bit and then wash out.

I put in cold malt vinegar, not white (much cheaper & it doesn't make the kettle taste funny). Costs about 13p a bottle.

I leave it (cold) for a while - maybe a few hours - till all the limescale's gone. Then I rinse & boil with water a few times.

I pour the used vinegar back into the bottle and use again next time - and again, till there's lots of limescale clouding it, when I use it for cleaning.
