How can I fluff up a down filled coat I have washed?

It says professional dry clean, or careful wash, which I did. On a 30 on a delicate wash. It's a Berghaus puffer that now looks like a kagoule! Admittedly the down is sat in balls in lumps all over it! But it says do not tumble! Any thoughts please to puff it up? Thanks

Actually I would put it in the dryer. Thats what works for our duvet.

I'd tumble with a couple of tennis balls on the coolest setting, checking each couple of mins.

Agree with flossie I was going to say the same thing.

Tennis balls or those tumble dryer balls.

I put mine in the drier and it fluffed up lovely!

I didn't bother with any balls BTW.

If you don't have a dryer, put it on radiator or in airing cupboard and turn it/shake it regularly til its dry & as the down dries out it will separate and fluff up.

Oooo thanks. Should I dry it inside a pillow case do you think? It's on the radiator now, and the down is still in balls!

the radiator will not fluff it up like a tumble will. If it is too big to flop around your drier, give it 50p in a laundrette drier. It is usually best to use low heat in case the garment has any meltable synthetic content or bonded interlinings.

No the radiator doesn't fluff it up - you have to do that by turning and shaking it a lot as it dries! I don't have a drier

We got Uniqlo down jackets and I washed them for the first time today, the look scary and I am so mad and bummed at myself, but thank God I found this to try it. My question is do I put it in the dryer when they are wet or slightly dry just to separate the clumped balls? Please advice :)

I put them in dryer straight after a spin cycle on the washing machine so they're not wet wet they're spun wet.

I used to take mine to be dry cleaned which fluffed it up a lot, so you could do that

And when it comes out of the drier, finish off drying it flat - so get it off the radiator. Apparently the drop makes the down slump within the coat so there's a thinner layer the higher up the coat you go.

I stick mine through the drier twice, once to dry snd the second time to fluff it up

It worked! Our jackets are back to new!!! I didn't have tennis balls so I used all kind of ball toys from my 3 year old, rubber duckies and the dryer blue balls! It worked like a charm!!!

Just tried the tennis balls in the dryer and I’m amazed it’s worked on my bosses £600 coat 😃😃

Mooseloose have just taken my j crew down coat out of the drier. It looks great!

It says hand wash at 30 and has a cross over the drier.

It was filthy and I figured that wouldn't get very far. And it is only nylon after all, so I bunged it in at 40. Came out looking very flat and bedraggled ( but clean😉) It went into the tumble on its own and has emerged fat and beautiful!

Thank you so much for this thread. Put my son's North Face puffer in the wash and he was not happy that it looked like a flat mess, I nearly cried because it was an expensive Christmas present. Followed your advice and it's perfect again 😃

I did mine with a lot of vigorous shaking. The dryer is probably easier!

I got down jackets and I washed them for the first time. It was fail. My question is how can I dry just to separate the clumped balls? Please advice.

Have you tried following the advice on this thread, and used a tumble drier?

I have just washed my puffa coat too abs it’s a either flat or lumpy, will the tennis balls work ? Also if it breaks the down up will it just sit above the seam line in each segment in channels now/ if that makes sense?! Or does it really spread it all out again ?

I was devastated when i washed my newly purchased puffer jacket, but thanks to this forum my puffer jacket puffed as new. I put in the dryer with liwest temperature about with 2 tennis balls and it worked🙂❤
