Mould/mildew in my bathroom.

I've just moved into my flat, and have just started noticing, black/green mould or mildew forming in parts of my bathroom.
I first noticed it when i took the blind down to clean, and its all up the seal of the window, and on closer inspection, all in the grout (i think thats what its called) of the tiles above the bath. I can only presume that the previous tenants have used non-bathroom stuff and therfore is not up to dealing with the moisture in the air.
Is there anything that i can do to clean it all off? A spray or something? I'm really hoping there is, as the tiles are white, and the mildewy stuff is making the bathroom look a bit gross :(
Thanks.

There are mould killers on the market, or you could just try bleach.

Ok thankyou. Went out today and found some mould/mildew spray, so hopefully that will shift it!

it is caused by damp which is a result of humidity from the bath or shower.

You need an extractor fan, otherwise you will never be rid of the humidity, the damp and the mould.

Ok thanks. If i open the window in the bathroom during the day will that help?

Will mention the extractor fan to the landlord to see if theres anything we can do.

if you leave it open most of the time, it will help.

it is not as good, because

  • it makes the room cold
  • so people will not want to do it
  • the cold walls will be more prone to condensation
  • unless you are lucky with wind direction, the airflow will not be going the right way

HQ Mould Remover works wonder. I use them on mould/mildrew in bathroom (between tiles and silicone) and it works brilliant. This is a bit expensive at £5.49 for 500ml from Lakeland website, but you can easily get this from most DIY stores.

Just make sure you are not wearing a 'good' top while spraying this as it will bleach your clothes very fast if not careful.

I second the HG mould remover, it is abosultely miraculous, nothing else comes close.

here

I bought it at homebase. Spray it on, leave it for 20 minutes, rinse off. mould gone!

Grotbuster is brilliant. Soak loo roll in it and press it against the mould and leave it there all day - will be gone by the evening.
