Bleaching not worked - what next?

DS1's white school shirt has I think paint splatters all up on arm. Normal washing didn't shift it, nor has nearly a week soaking in a bleach solution ( which I've added more bleach to to make it stronger....)

What next to get the marks out? The shirts are monogrammed with the school logo and about 30euros to replace so would rather salvage it if at all possible.

Would white spirit be worth a try.... paint could be oil based perhaps??

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Try neat bleach. You have nothing to lose! This is usually my last resort (stupid prescribed bloody uniform) and it has worked - make sure the logo doesn't get dunked (assuming it is not white). Pour it on and leave overnight.

White spirt may leave an oily spodge.... but as a last resort may be worth a try.

I would go with the neat bleach first too.

Neat bleach overnight hasn't done the trick.....in fact it hasn't touched it at all.

Feel a new shirt coming on.

I googled and discovered that half a dishwasher tablet - the ones with the red power ball and half a washing tab, got dried red clay out which bleach didn't

worth a shot?

doradoo · 18/11/2011 10:02

Thanks Furball - anything worth a shot at this point!

milton tablet (or indeed neat milton fluid) seems to work for us.

but not sure it would be better than neat bleach overnight.... by the end of this the shirt will disintegrate

MeghanMc · 18/11/2011 11:32

Try soaking it in Vanish (for white cloths) solution overnight. This usually help me to shift orange juice from clothes.

Furball · 18/11/2011 11:34

I meant I had to google it for myself last week - it worked and absolute treat and the shirt is now sparkling white

Good luck

It's been in bleach for a week!

Gosh if that has bit shifted the stain (or dissolved the shirt) I think you'd better give up. Sad

Bleach didn't do the trick - even after a week....

However, I soaked it overnight in lots of oxy stuff and it has faded significantly - enough that it will do for school..... (slummy mummy alert!)

Fabric stood up well to the extended soakings - it's an M&S shirt (which my school have bought and had embroidered....) so can heartily recommend their toughness!
