How many cupboards do you have in your house and what do you keep in them?

Inspired by this thread where a poster said she had planned paperwork cupboards in her kitchen I am wondering what kind of cupboard space we need to try and aim for when re-doing our house

Lots of coat cupboards downstairs
Possibly somewhere in the kitchen for paperwork
Somewhere for the hoover and broom and mop etc (Rita Konig refers to this as the housemaid's cupboardHmm)

somewhere for all the bloody shoes

What else am I missing?

Somewhere to serve as a pantry? Obviously depends how much you cook! We need storage space for about 30 different herbs/spices, plus all the jars of flour, sugar etc. Our pantry is rammed with hoover, broom, mop, bucket, recipe books, food, picnic hamper, carrier bag holder thingie, shoe racks, loo roll, cat food & bag of cat litter.... oh iron and ironing board too.

We also have a big cupboard for kitchen gadgets that we dont use anymore like the slow cooker, panini press, bread maker, and sandwich toaster etc

You cannot have too many cupboards.

In my three bed flat I have 17, not including kitchen cupboards. They are all rammed full, and I wish I would just get my arse in gear and sort them out. So I could find everything (and then fill them up again!).

I have a housemaid's cupboard and it is FAB!

Cupboard planning is a very good idea. I wouldn't keep paperwork in the kitchen, as paper absorbs grease/smells/vapours very easily.

Properly fitted clothes cupboards are a godsend (you can keep so much more in them).

we have a small drawer in the kitchen with some paper work but most of it i keep in a box file which is in a bedroom cupboard.
kitchen we just have the normal cupboards for food, kitchen equipment, one for the boiler and also i kept one for kids craft stuff
i agree as much cupboards and storage as you can fit in, is really good cos if you have somewhere to put everything it looks tidier
i wish i had a 'maids cupboard' to keep broom mop etc if you have space for that defnitely a good idea

ooh a craft cupboard...

In the house?

er....2 upstairs - airing cupboard and walk in wardrobe, converted into cupboards
1 under the stairs that you can walk into
11 in the kitchen - full of pots and pans and food
and a pantry, which has the fridge, freezer, washing baskets, mop buckets and ironing board in.
and 2 sideboards in the living room

not counting....

the brick shed on the side of the house, loft and cellar

I love my house sometimes.
