Carpet cleaners

Hi all,

We rather stupidly decided, pre-children, that having a cream carpet was a great idea. Does anyone have a own a carpet cleaner they would recommend? We've been looking at Vac and Bissell, but they all look the same.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

There's a carpet cleaner for hire out these now called "rug doctor" it comes with commercial type carpet cleaner. You go into either a homebase or tescos etc and hire it for i think £40, people seem to swear by it that it gives a real professional clean and the equipment is very easy to use, it comes with the washing solution etc. I havent tried it myself but it looks good. No harm trying Smile

Hello I've got cream carpets, 4 cats and a Vax. I thought about hiring one before I got my Vax, but to be honest at 8am I was cleaning up cat sick and if I'd hired one I wouldn't beagle to do that.

Rug Doctors are great. They are easy to use but quite cheap to hire. We tend to get one for 24 hours and whizz it round my parents house as well before returning it.
I have cream carpets and they come up quite nice. I use the traffic lane spray then the normal detergent. They need emptying and refilling quite a lot but once you get into the rhythm it's not too bad.
I find they get all the grime and black bits out. We have some Lucozade and chicken tikka stains that nothing will shift!

We had a Bissell (proheat 2x or something?). It was fine but broke just inside it's warranty period (?2 years) so we sent it back to them and they repaired it (very promptly). It worked one more time and then died again.
We have replaced it with a Vax V-125. Only used it once so far but think that it cleans a little better than the Bissell but not so good at edges, and it uses a lot of solution compared to the Bissell. It has a 6 year guarantee so we are hoping that even if these things are prone to break, that it will be fixed by Vax. I think I prefer the Vax design but probably would go for something a little less complex than the V-125 if there is one.

We got a vac carpet washer a few yrs back. It works well but it's a bit fiddly filling and emptying tanks all the time.
In fact I was down on my knees scrubbing stains only yesterday as it's quicker to do it by hand.

I got a bissell a few years ago - it did pack up, but got it from Lakeland so they sent me a new one (and a much better one, because they didn't do mine any more). It's great. My DM, SIL and me "share" it so makes it affordable as against hiring.

I've had various different ones and also have beige carpets. The Bissell proheat was good but it was so tricky to get all the bits in the right place and if you didn't it wouldn't work at all. The other smaller Bissells and VAX weren't any good at all.

I love the rug doctor though. Very bulky and heavy but cleans brilliantly.!
