...and the rest of the seven bad household dwarves are living in my washing machine!!

I usually take the washing out fairly soon after the cycle finishes, try to leave the door open for as long as possible after washing, put a 90 degree cycle on with no clothes in to clean it out but still there is a whiff of mould coming from it...any other ideas?

try running a hot wash with soda crystals or white vinegar.

alternatively there is a product you can buy - i think it's called 'service it'.

HappyAsASandboy · 16/11/2011 07:50

White vinegar. I stick about half a mug through on a 90 degree wash about once a month. I've no idea whether that's the best amount, but it works a treat and is very cheap Smile

On the other hand, Fusty, Musty and Smelly are living in the clothes on my airer. Washing won't dry on the airer as we have no oil left Blush and so only heat bedroom/living room. Off to order oil now.

Ok...vinegar seems to be the popular choice....how on earth do ye know this stuff!!! HappyAsASandboy...thank God I'm not the only one who lets the oil run out....I used live in a verrrrrrrrry old house, single pane windows, thick stone walls....no insulation and used to do this on a regular basis and had to desperately ring around...usually on a Saturday afternoon hoping for somebody to take pity on us!

ceres, where have you seen the 'Service It? Would come in very handy too. Do you just put the soda crystals into the drum?

gemini - i think you can get the service it at tesco, i have also seen it in aldi on their specials. it's dr beckmann service it (had to google it!)

if you use soda crystals just stick a good cup full in the drum. if vinegar then a good cup full in the drawer. i know this stuff because i have a sad obsession with household hints! unfortunately i don't put them into practice often enough.

totally off topic - are you irish? it's the 'ye' combined with the oil heating that makes me ask!

geminigirl · 25/11/2011 10:36

Well, the vinegar was a resounding success!!...Ha ha...foiled...Yes am oirish! What is it about the oil heating then??
