Boxes for house move.

Can anyone recommend the best and cheapest place to buy some good boxes and bits for moving house. Packing and sorting over a long time and moving gradually so having movers in is not the right thing until moving big stuff.

Any suggestions anyone?

TIA

Are you on Freecycle? Ours always has moving boxes.

I wouldn't bother buying them tbh - they cost a fortune.

I would go to your local supermarket and ask at customer services for them to hold back some boxes for you. Most places will do this. Also a good place to ask is Pets At Home, you can get great big massive boxes there. All you need to buy then are rolls of brown parcel tape to construct the boxes.

If you do want to buy them, any Big Yellow storage place will have them. When we last moved DP went there and spent £50 on boxes (much to my rage).

I tend to just go ask local shop for some boxes. Having different types of boxes can be handy - eg all your books are in the walkers crisps boxes. much easier to find than brown box number 39 if you realised you needed something you have already packed.

As a veteran of many moves my top tip is don't get large boxes - you can't lift them when they're full.

Use those giant nylon zip-up bags for clothes and linens, and wine cases for books.

I'll second freecycle or freegle or gumtree.

They have them on ebay for cheaper than you'll pay at a storage place.

I have asked at two shops co-op and big tesco and you would have though that I had asked for a kidney!

I will check out freecycle and ebay - I am DETERMINED to not lose the plot whilst I do this house move as pregnant and a bit 'organisey' although I live in a complete pit!

Definitely suggest asking smaller local shops. The ones near me often have plenty of different sized ones and are always happy for me to take them as it saves them having to dispose of them. Good luck with the move!

I am moving too-in 3 weeks!!! Eek does anyone have any tips on packing??? I am rather a novice, and have to do it all during evenings and weekends as I work.... Smile

Argos sell boxes! 10 for £12 I think

Those vacuum bags too where you suck the air out.

Fruit boxes are great for books and dvds. The pub where I work is always throwing out cardboard wine and beer boxes; probably better to ask at a pub - I agree that asking for boxes in supermarkets is like asking for a kidney!

Packing boxes

These are the ones I'm looking at for our move in a few weeks (hopefully!) Not sure if I wanted to spend money on them but as I am working full time I haven't got time to go around trying to persuade miserable shops to give me theirs!
