I loathe ironing, honestly hate it and it's made worse with the bloody iron I bought in haste. DH, was sympathetic and came up with an ideal soluition. Get one of those ones with 20 litres of water in a holder.
According to him (and I can't imagine how he knows) they make ironing a doddle and produce vasts whooshes of steam.
I did have a quick look online, but can't access which? because I am not a member.
Help.

If you mean the steam generator ones then yes they are great but you are still ironing.
I got one last year and ironing is slightly quicker with it.

Thanks for the answer. I wanted whizz through it, not slightly quicker. Do you have a recommendation for make and model? the vary so much in price but I don't think the features are that much different.
Obviously the £38 won't be as good as the £154 one, but perhaps something in the middle would be OK?

A steam generator one is much faster! It's cut my ironing time down by loads and is well worth the money. Having said that if you loathe ironing no gadget will suddenly make you love it. One word of warning though, they're very noisy!

Anything that makes it quicker will be welcome. Noisy I can deal with, can't be worse than DD in a strop.

I have a steam press which really speeds up ironing.

Plonk on table, laptop one side, glass of wine the other.

Semi hands free seated ironing.

Not good for jackets but everything else is really quick

Is that the thing like a toaster? You put stuff down and sandwich it? I am open to anything TBH.

One of these alhtough I got mine second hand for about £30 - only downside is big to store

bubbles4 · 11/11/2011 06:56

I have this one,its great as an iron, the only downside if you run out of steam you have to wait 15 mins for it to cool down before you fill it up again as its pressurised, have had cheap ones and my advice is dont bother.

If you do end up going for a steaming iron, I suggest you get an ironing board with a latticed/meshed top, not a solid top (if you don't already have one). Otherwise you'll just accumulate a ton of cold damp water between your board and the board cover. If you hoard your ironing for once a week and do it all in one go, it's not a bad idea but I don't think it will RADICALLY change your life. Might make it a bit more interactive and interesting though Grin. If you do bits 'n' bobs of ironing throughout the week, I'd really just stick with a normal iron.

I have one of those irons and found them to be quite good, but I do find mine a bit heavy and with a bit of a bad back I could do with a lighter one. I live in a flat as well and it does take up a bit too much space so looking for something smaller. Does anyone know of a good (cheap reasonably priced), small, light-weight iron? (Sorry to butt in on the conversation about steam gen irons.)
