Help! dark blue leather sofa, beige carpets and magnolia walls. Decoration ideas please?

We are moving into rented accommodation on a long term basis in 2 days time. There are no curtains in the house and we love to decorate it rather than just make do with whatever we have as we have been doing for the past 8 years!

What complimentary colour could I use? Would teal be okay with navy / dark blue? Or hot orangey red?

I would be very grateful for some ideas! Thank you!

I think navy looks good with shades of blues, turquoise and aqua. Make sure you have a range of dark and light shades, and bring in some interesting textures with cushions and accessories. You could also bring in some beige and coffee colours, and silver.

Dulux have a few colour tools you can use to look at colour schemes.

Thank you! I really appreciate the advice. I am not very creative so having some starting point is very useful.

Thank you!

Work with accesories. Cushions, curtains, vases ... Teal sounds like the best colour. It's very in atm anyway. I'd keep the walls neutral though.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere, you need to check that its OK with your landlord before you redecorate. Otherwise your landlord can quite legally take your desposit off you to pay to paint the walls magnolia again.

As reckner says your best better might be to work with accessories which you can take with you when you eventually leave.

Yes, of course. We are not going to paint or change carpets! Sorry - I did not mean decorate in the fullest sense. Thanks for the advice, though. I just wanted to know about colours for curtains, cushions, prints, accessories etc.

Yes, we rent and I not allowed to paint. I think I can if I ask permission but I quite like the fact that I can't paint, because it stops me sitting here wanting to or agonising over which colour :)
Hang nice pictures on the wall, use blankets or a nice rug on the floor to add colour.
