Decent roasting tins

Do they exist?

I am fed up of buying them and then a few months later the non-stick is peeling off the bottom. I have been looking for decent ones for a while but am reluctant to splash out on expensive ones if they are just going to flake the same way.

I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for some that last - can anyone give any recommendations?

I have stellar ones, cost more but are heavy, durable tins that take a real battering in my house. They have not peeled & are still as good as they were when bought a few years ago.

Mermaid ones are excellent. They are hard anodised, rather than non-stick, but I find that stuff doesn't stick that much to them, and if you soak them straight after use, they are very easy to wash. You can also use metal utensils in them without any problem. They are sturdy and won't buckle in the heat either.

get shiny stainless steel Smile

obv they are not non-stick as such, but most things don't stick badly, & almost everything that does comes off with a soak - occasionally it needs a scour but even so performs fine next time

& they don't look bad either

\link{http://www.marksandspencer.com/Marks-and-Spencer-Stainless-Roaster/dp/B0052GTJVI?extid=TP_2_FRO_T_MSF_\M&S - particularly shiny!}

Ikea have some nice sturdy ones for less

\link{http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=110&storeId=10151&partNumber=8615590\super bargain at Homebase} - I have a set like this (not from Homebase but prob the same). You could get those to be going on with & see if you like them?

Don't get mermaid if you plan to ignore the very clear instructions and put them in the dishwasher. It will only end in tears.

I've got stainless steel now, and cast iron which is brilliant on the hob.

Poledra · 09/11/2011 13:00

I have Mermaid, and love 'em (though have been a Good Girl and not put them in the dishwasher Wink). Can use on the hob, so can make delicious gravy, scraping up all the sticky bits from the bottom of the tin.

Ponders · 09/11/2011 14:09

stainless steel also goes on the hob

& in fact making gravy is an excellent form of pre-wash Wink

Poledra · 09/11/2011 14:20

Well, I didn't want to say that Ponders...

Another good one is leaving the tin outside the back door to cool down, forgetting about it and finding it much cleaner the next morning. I guess all the little rodents in my back garden had turkey for Christmas too last year Blush

Wow, thanks for all the responses. Really appreciate the advice.

Am pleased to hear there are some decent ones out there. Going to have a look at all these options and make a decision, so hopefully I will have decent tins before Christmas.

Thought I'd let you know that I opted for Mermaid in the end, and I am absolutely delighted with them. Thank you for the tip!

What would people recommend for ones to go in the dishwasher?

Any I buy will get shoved in there, and the cheap Sainsbos ones MrNC bought in the summer sale are peeling already.
