Mouse in the house!

I've tried to ignore this mouse, have cleared out tiny nests, but now my son has actually seen it, I need to take action. What is the best plan? A human trap and release it far from home? I can't block up the possible entrances as it's an old house with quirky walls and extensions. Where do you buy humane traps, do they work? Thanks so much!

I meant to refer to 'humane traps'!

[arf]@ human trap - a little OTT :)

Personally, I used to put down poison. Then I got cats and the mice stay outside... everyone happy. I think the humane traps can actually kill the mouse through stress.

However, I'm afraid you don't have a mouse, you have mice. Plural.

And they can fit through a hole the size of a pencil, apparently. [shudder]

We used traps like this one

www.amazon.co.uk/Humane-Reusable-Mouse-Catcher-Sucker/dp/B0055RD2LM/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1320830971&sr=8-8

bought from local hardware shop.

Peanut butter worked best as bait. The mouse goes inside and the trap falls on its side and shuts. You then have to take the trap, with live mouse inside, a long way from your house. (The field next to our house was far too close, they came back). When you open the trap the mouse will be gone so fast you'll only see a blur. Then you set the trap again, and keep going till you've gone a few days without catching one.

You can get those traps from B&Q/Homebase/Hardware shops etc.

I've currently got mice too and have got one of those sonic thingamys that are meant to deter them (I hear they never work but hey, I'm willing to try)..

We tried humane traps in another house I used to live in and never caught one.. but try it, yours might be thicker! Bait them with peanut butter.

For the humane traps to be truly humane you have to check them every couple of hours - if left too long without water/stressed, the mouse will die anyway. Chocolate also works as bait.

Alternatively you could just try naming them...
