I've decided I need a housekeeping manual of some sort

I read the recent Q&A of that wonderwoman book and decided it definitely wasn't for me.

But it did make me think that I could do with a good practical reference book - does anyone have any good ones they can recommend to me please?

I guess I'd like it to cover stuff like how to take care of household appliances, a bit of diy, stain removal/washing guidance, ideas for organizing housework better/putting good systems in place, maybe storage ideas, damage repair, that kind of thing.

Oh, and I couldn't bring myself to buy it if the title contained reference to 'woman' or 'housewife' - just a guide to all the things you need to know about running a house for anyone!

You need rachel simhons housewife manual for running the modern home, well written.

Sorry you won't like the title but I don't think you'll find better. She's an ex housework hater turned houseproud women

Readers Digest do a good guide - I have one called Clean Home or something like that.

Oh and I have a Mrs Beeton from 1960s which is priceless, but there are some good tips (eg. which major tasks to do in which season - air all linen in summer, mend and darn in winter etc)

Ooh this is great - thank you; I am going to check them all out now.

I have bought the Rachel Simhons one - I think I can get past the title seeing as it looks really good from the reviews, and a good price. At least it's not in the style of Anthea Turner's 'Perfect housewife' or anything!

Speedcleaning also looks good - have my eye on that, but will see how this one works out first.

Thanks again for your help!

Cut the Clutter by Cynthia Townley Ewer of organizedhome.com. It's not just about dealing with clutter, but all kinds of housekeeping.

Rachel Simhons - The Housewife's Handbook - I an a full time housewife and this book is excellent - a good buy if you're not sure about housework.
