Very Very new SAHM and young (ish) as well and living in a house for the first time (always been flats previously) and am completely out of my depth, my DH used to do all the housework as he is older and better at it and doesn't have my mess blindness but now he is working a demanding full time job and I am at home and really want to get it right for him but can't even get past treading water. I've found the fly lady website but can't work out where to start..
My DD is 7 weeks old ..
Help?

echo..echo.echo...

I have to go out now, please leave lots of lovely responses for when I get back, otherwise I shall be sad never come back, my DH will leave me and I will be found perfectly preserved in piles of dust and other miscallaneous crap with cats eating my toes in 50 years time. That is all.

Love your name!

Sign up for the babysteps emails, follow them each day for a month, then you can start building your own routines.

You can do it, but I might cut myself some slack and start when baby is a leetle older, just a few weeks maybe? Or if you feel you can do it now then g fir it.

ahhyesiseeyouvepooedonyourfoot · 31/10/2011 21:06

In fairness she is a very well behaved baby (touch wood) and I spend the vast proportion of the day on mumsnet or wandering around town...I just seem incapable of finishing jobs, or too lethargic. gah I don't know, will try the baby steps emails! Thanks for your reply trickywoo to save me from my lonely dusty death!

I'm not sure if I get the babystep but I find Flylady wordy However, if you click on the missions for the day they are totally doable in 15 minutes. Do them for 2 weeks and you will feel like you can put order to it.

I completely agree with her about going to bed with an empty sink and bit of laundry a day keeps CHAOS away.

Helloooo the fly lady has a whole load of tips for flying with a baby... here

personally I hate the email system. But do find the doing a little and often basis of the fly system really helps. I also have mess blindness but am coming from a complete and utter state of disaster so for me the key is to declutter and keeping the amount of clutter low. If it doesn't have a home it goes. Also to tackle hotspots. As you have popped over to the fledlings thread we can help you through the babysteps thing which is about building simple things into habbit.

However, there are lots of different takes on the fly system so you might still get very useful answers here which complete contridicts what I have just typed. Essentially you have to adapt the system so it works for you. Good luck.

FrumpyPumpy · 31/10/2011 21:31

No problem. The big thing with Flylady is you can do anything for15 mins, so if you are sorting your wardrobe don't pull it all out and itbecomes overwhelming, just do a few items at a time then you can stop at any time, it's not a complete tip and you can go on mumsnet switch to another task.

Hello Ahyes (brilliant name!) I have followed you over from the November Fledgling Flyers thread (I am an old timer on that thread). Flying could definitely help you, it requires a little bit of discipline but it is all in small manageable chunks. I will put a bit more detail on that thread as quite often new people join in at the beginning of the month.

poppycat04 · 31/10/2011 21:35

Get sink reflections from amazon, flylady book. Explains it all better than emails.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/10/2011 21:45

Have posted on the Fledgling Flyers thread for you. I would agree that the book is well worth buying, it is easier to follow than the website, I use it as well as being a long term resident on the Flying threads.

Goodmorning Flyers (said in Charlie from Charlie's angel voice) so the book is the key? this morning I have done 15 mins in the kitchen and made my sink very beautiful so that is good, lounge not great though will go nosey on the fledgling flyers thread, thanks everyone

I agree with most of the others.
Get a timer and do 15 minutes here and there,
Also --a trick I need to make a habit is time how long you have on MN--
Talking of which my timer has just rang so I better go and do some more! Blush

ooh I don't think I was doing anything with a 7-week old, other than watching America's Next Top Model, and heating up microwave meals...

The only fly thing I picked up really was the putting away 27 things thing. Always makes a room look better and very manageable.

If you can't get on with flylady, this is a nice thread for those of us just doing it our own way: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/1327836-Fellow-Shit-Tippers-Anyone-want-to-join-my-thread-for-sorting-your-house-out . I find making a very short and manageable list for the day is helpful - and checking in here for support!
