they are trapped behind the fireguard so get missed by my 'quick someone's coming over' dusting. Blush
however now its cold and i want the fire on but not sure the dust is a great addition to the fire. Hmm

how the heck do i clean them?
i don't want to remove them in case i can't put them back.

why do you want to clean them...am genuinley bemused?

Hi , You can hoover them with the small soft brush attachment.
You can also buy a special spray paint to blacken the coals and make them look like new.
You can buy the paint from a shop that sells fireplaces.
Hope that helps!

my baby would love to suck them.

Yes ds was always keen on grabbing them - hence the year round fire guard.

I want to clean them as they look dusty and crap. And I'm slightly concerned about burning dust when I pit te fire on.
I don't think I'd paint them as they are though as I doubt the paint would take well to a dusty surface.

Will try the Hoover brush.

Ta! :)

I would also use the vacuum cleaner brush method. It's very effective for fiddly areas like this.

I hoover my fake coal.

Wow! It's never crossed my mind to think about cleaning the fake coals on my fireplace! But I am someone who started thinking about deep-cleaning my kitchen in February- and only actually did it last week!

worldgonemad72 · 15/10/2011 22:27

probably best idea is to get the fire serviced, you may have dust in the burner as well.

Ours broke down about 2 yrs ago so the dust accumulated! Got it working last weekend & I got the Dyson out & removed all the coals & hoovered away. even bought 20 new coals to put on it as it looked rather ampty.
