Pee on carpet!

I hope to have some advice on how to get the smell of boy wee out of the carpet. My son sleepwalked and peed in the stairs and even thought I sponged them, sprayed Vanish + hoovered and also sprayed with disinfectant there is a very strong urine smell in the stairs. Yuck.
Any advice received with thanks!

I drench the carpet with water to dilute the wee, then blot it with towels.

Will do that when partner takes children out this afternoon! If (or perhaps rather when) it happens again I'll do that straight away.

are you sure you got the right area...has he not pee'ed somewhere else too?
